Guest guest
Hi everyone, Yesterday when it was brought up that the boy who crashed the plane in FL was on an acne med. that could cause depression or suicidal tendencies I admit I was a little doubtful of the claim. But there it was on the news this morning: http://www.msnbc.com/news/682652.asp?pne=11947 . I agree that pharmaceutical co.'s and the FDA need to stop creating and approving as "safe" chemical potions in the names of science and medicine. But isn't there an individual responsibility here too? Usually (as in the acne med. case) the side effects are right there in black and white. The choice is the patient's (or the patient's parents in the case of minors) whether or not to take it seriously and weigh the possible risks with the possible benefits. We (the general public) need to be more discerning and do more research on what we take instead of listening to the doctor say "Its a good thing." Now, if there was an herb that could cause serious side effects, we would be responsible to know the facts and take the consequences of our own actions. If fact there are herbs that are downright dangerous if misused. When we try to get medications "banned" (or the equivalent) aren't we doing the same thing the FDA is trying to do to herbs? I personally think we need to focus on education and personal responsibility more than political action and legislation. Just my thoughts. I'm going to go put on my fire-proof pajamas now.
