Ear infections in toddler

Hello, everyone. My daughter is 18 months old and has had tubes in her ears

since she was 12 months because of recurrent ear infections. They've helped

some, not too much though she's still getting the infections. At first it

was every 2 months now its every month and the last one did not want to go

away. My question is, does she really need to be on antibiotics right away

since the tubes are there to let the crud drain out? I understand that if

left untreated for too long it can cause meningitis?? Any advice would be

appreciated as her left ear is draining again. TIA

Ann,

A friend of mine used those ear candles you get at the

health food store for her baby. They worked great;

all the crud was pulled up into the candles and the

baby showed near instant results. With the use of the

candles it never progressed to the point of needing

the tubes or antibiotics. Might be worthwhile getting

more info on the candles.

Thanks for the info Shannon, she already has ear tubes though so nothing can be put in the ear.

Someone in this group mentioned that silver colloidal water drops

in the ears works well. Does anyone remember that entry?

I don't remember that post but I have used it (colliodal silver) and it does work. I've also used the old home remedy of a drop or two of garlic oil on a cotton ball put in the ear overnight. That has worked too, and is usually easier (better tolerated so less wrestling! <g>) with kids than drops in the ear. My husband had always gotten at least two ear infections a year and ran to the doctor for antibiotics before he met me. He almost had tubes put in his ears as a child. After using the colloidal silver he rarely gets infections -only one every few years now.

********ps-- I would be leery of putting anything in the ears of someone with ear tubes.***********

Yes, and i have used that myself on a couple of occasions. Sometimes it

works, and sometimes it doesn't. With ear infections, at least silver can't

hurt, unlike some remedies i know.

Also, remember the classic ear remedy, which is mullein oil. Just a drop or

two once in a while -- but discontinue if there's no improvement within two

days.

It is my own opinion that many ear infections in toddlers are facilitated by

excess sugar in the diet. It is apalling how much sugar these kids get in

the course of a normal day, even in families who are relatively conscientious.

Dear Ann,

I'd prefer to check her out myself before I'd go too far out on a limb here with advice.

Ideally, we'd have the tubes removed and would treat it herbally, but this is a hard call to make without personal investigation.

The tubes themselves could be part of the problem, so you are between a rock and hard place here as it is difficult to treat herbally with the tubes in the way. My first temptation would be to remove the tubes and start applying herbal treatments = Olive oil with Mullein, DMSO and garlic in it. I'd also be giving your baby a small quantity of Total Nutrition every day with a separate dose of DMSO as part of the nutritional and biochemical handling.

Sorry, I can't be more specific, but this is what I have to offer with the data you've given.

Love,

My only back off on the CS is the 'possible' long term toxic effects of it. I like the formula in the files which is:

2 cups of organic olive oil

1/4 cup of garlic powder

1/4 cup of Mullein powder

(the garlic and mullein can be varied to a greater or lesser degree depending on potency of powder used)

Let it sit for two weeks while shaking it a couple of times a day and then strain it out at the end of the two week period. Best is to make it on the new moon and press it on the full moon.

Love,
