Guest guest
MUSICAL HEALING PART 2 -- MOST USED MUSICAL KEYS Within the subject of musical keys, there is embedded a language that we can use to generate precise effects. By keys, it is meant that fundamental aspect of European and American music where each piece of music is said to be in a certain key, such as C, G, or F. These are usually related to the major scale, for those who know the basic technical formulas. Remember that everything is related to the piano, which is a direct descendant of the harp. On the piano, the fundamental key, which means an 8-note scale played all on the white keys, is C Major. Much of this work was previously developed by Steven Halpern and Corine Helene, so you can dig up their books for deeper references. The specific characteristics given here are a combination of this previous work, and personal experiences drawn from live performances and individual sessions with many patients. Here is a list of some major keys, and their correspondences. Remember that # means sharp, and b means flat. The first five keys have been rigged to play on my own harps, so there is more direct experience with these. The others have mostly been checked out on the guitar. C Fundamental to the physical body, and can act on any physical condition. F Good for moderate relaxation and general calmness. Best in mid-evening. Bb Deep relaxation, especially in tense situations. Best in late evening or before a wedding. G Especially good for digestion. Can calm colicky babies, for example D Breathing, all respiratory functions. Especially good in mid-morning. A Active physical work. E High activity, some stimulation of sexual functions. Eb Endocrine system stimulation, especially the pituitary gland. F# Good for prayer (many Native American flutes are in this key). And here are a few minor keys, listed in the order of the previous table as to correspondence with their relative major keys. The four left out at the end are not often used and have not been explored at this time due to technical considerations. Am Navigation and recovery from shock. Dm Enhancing marriage relationships. G Possibly a connection with plants in nature, not fully explored. Em Physical aspects of emotions. Bm Some sort of inspiration, not fully explored. Beyond this are the other Pythagorean modes, which are covered in the " 7 Keys to Health " article. Each of these keys also corresponds to a particular color. It is known that the ancient Greeks would place patients in rooms of specific colors to enhance healing effects. The most workable system so far appears to be using the direct spectrum like this: C red D orange E yellow F green G blue A indigo B purple In my own research, green and blue have been flipped around, which symbolizes the way DNA works. So G is green and F is blue. This aspect should be considered optional at this time, and subject to further experimentation. Also note that Flamenco music, which is often in a scale outside the Pythagorean system that originally was developed in India and used extensively in the Middle East and Spain, has a special purpose. That is to promote healing of connective tissues, such as ligaments and cartilage. People with typical sports related injuries would do well to listen to Flamenco often. By using this table, you can easily correlate Classical works which are usually titled with key signatures for specific healing practices. This material may be passed on to anyone, provided the author's name and email address are always attached. Comments on specific cases are always welcome, as that furthers the research. -- Michael Riversong ** Professional Harpist, Educator, and Writer ** RivEdu ** Phone: (307)635-0900 FAX (413)691-0399 http://home.earthlink.net/~mriversong
