Information on Parasites

Guess What Came To Dinner?

by Audrey Kelliher & Corae Eldan

Yes, we're talking about parasites. Before you tune out because you

don't believe that you could ever have parasites, may I say that

parasites in the 21st century have become almost an epidemic for

exactly the reason you may not want to read this. I've had people say

to me that they would rather not know they have parasites and

therefore they wouldn't want to do a " cleanse " for FEAR that they

might see them in the toilet.

Perhaps someday someone will give me a rational reason for that

attitude. Anyone who has overcome any kind of health challenge knows

that denial or ignorance of a problem or condition never excuses one

from participation in it. That is to say, a positive mental attitude

based on re-alism and action is far more effective than avoidance. So

hold on because we are not avoiding anything in this article.

We will discuss some of the common symptoms associated with

parasites, how we get parasites and of course, what we can do about

eliminating and keeping them out of our bodies.

×××× Parasites ××××

Much of the information shared in this article comes from two books:

Guess What Came to Dinner by Ann Louise Gittleman and A Cure For All

Cancers by Hulda Regehr Clark, Ph.D., N.D.

Parasites are a serious public health threat because so few people

are talking about them and even fewer people are listening when they

are discussed. They are insidious because of the common misconception

among medical people and the general public that parasites are

generally a Third World problem where malnutrition and poor hygienic

practices exist. Nothing could be farther from the truth. Tests often

do not show parasites because the testing procedures are by and large

outdated and inadequate.

Here's what informed people are saying!

· An article in June 27, 1978, Miami Herald states that a

nationwide survey conducted by the Centers for Disease Control in

1976 revealed that one in every six people selected at random had one

or more parasites.

· Louis Parrish, M.D. a New York City physician who specializes

in parasites, wrote in 1991, " Based upon my experience, I estimate in

the New York metropolitan area that 25 percent of the population is

infected... Projections for the year 2025 suggest that more than half

of the 8.3 bil-lion people on Earth will then be infected with

parasitic diseases. "

· " We have a tremendous parasite problem right here in the

United States - it's just not being identified. " - Peter Weina,

Ph.D., Chief of Pathobiology, Walter Reed Army Institute of Re-

search, 1991

· " I strongly believe that every patient with disorders of

immune function, including multiple al-lergies (especially food

allergy), and patients with unexplained fatigue or with chronic bowel

symptoms should be evaluated for the presence of intestinal

parasites. " - Leo Galland, M.D. Townsend Letter for Doctors, 1988

· " Make no mistake about it, worms are the most toxic agents in

the human body. They are one of the primary underlying causes of

disease and are the most basic cause of a compromised im-mune

system. " - Hazel Parcells, D.C., N.D., Ph.D., 1974

Who gets parasites?

Everyone is susceptible and money and position have nothing to do

with it. For example, Yul Brynner became seriously ill from

thrichinosis (a parasite) after eating in a well-known New York

restaurant. Tennis pro Martina Navratilova was affected by cat-

transmitted toxoplasmosis. Contaminated well-water at some of the

nations most prestigious ski resorts has led to outbreaks of

giardiasis. I am all to familiar with frequent spring outbreaks of

beaver fever Let's look at some of the reasons for rising parasitic

infection.

This list is taken from page 9/10 of Louise Gittlemang's book, Guess

What Came To Dinner.

Rise in international travel

Contamination of municipal and rural water supplies

Increasing use of day-care centers.

Influx of refugee and immigrant populations from endemic

areas.

Return of armed forces from overseas.

Continued popularity of household pets.

Increasing popularity of exotic regional foods.

Use of antibiotics and immunosuppressive drugs.

The sexual revolution.

The spread of AIDS.

What are the Warning Signs?

The effects of infection go far beyond the gastrointestinal tract so

we should be aware of any bodily changes. Signs and symptoms may

occur during initial exposure, shortly after the expo-sure or many

months later. What many of us attribute to old age, stress or just

poor health may be due to an uninvited guest.

There are four pathways that we can be infected:

Via food or water which are sources of the roundworm, amoeba,

gardia

Via a vector - mosquito carrier of dog heartworm, filaria,

malaria; flea is a carrier of dog tapeworm; common housefly transmits

amebic cysts; sand fly carries leishmaniasis

Via sexual contact where partners can transmit trichomonas,

giardia, amoeba

Through the nose and skin where pinworm eggs and Toxoplasma

gondii can be inhaled from contaminated dust, hookworms,

schistosomes, and strongyloides can penetrate exposed skin or bare

feet.

Another parasitic pathway is the airplane. " Extensive foreign

travel has exposed people to a whole gamut of exotic diseases never

before encountered in their homeland. " Guess What Came to Dinner by

Louise Gittleman, pg 22 So put simply, here are a few of the ways we

could have become infected.

Traveled to foreign countries?

Walked barefoot outside or inside your house (especially if

you have pets that share your environment)?

Eaten pork or shellfish?

Have pets in your home, especially cats?

Petted your animals and neglected to wash your hands?

Put your hands into your mouth?

What are some of the symptoms of parasite infection?

These are only possible symptoms, and please keep in mind that not

everyone that has a few of these symptoms should automatically make

the assumption that they are infected; however, if you suspect

infection or have been unsuccessfully treated for a problem, it is

worth doing some specific parasite cleansing.

Please take the test, share it with friends and family and if you're

open to being healthier, and discuss it.

Feel tired most of the time (Chronic Fatigue)?

Have digestive problems? (gas, bloating, constipation or

diarrhea that come and go but never really clear up)

Have gastrointestinal symptoms and bulky stools with excess

fat in feces?

Suffer with food sensitivities and environmental in-

tolerances?

Developed allergic-like reactions and can't understand why?

Have joint and muscle pains and inflammation often assumed to

be caused by arthritis?

Suffer with anemia or iron deficiency (pernicious anemia)?

Have hives, rashes, weeping eczema, cutaneous ulcers,

swellings, sores, papular lesions, itchy dermatitis?

Suffer with restlessness or anxiety?

Experience multiple awakenings during the night particularly

between 2 and 3 AM?

Grind your teeth?

Have an excessive amount of bacterial or viral infections?

Depressed?

Difficulty gaining or losing weight no matter what you do?

Did a Candida program which either didn't help at all or

helped somewhat but you still can't stay away from bread, alcohol,

fruit or fruit juices?

Just can't figure out why you don't feel really great and

neither can your doctor?

How many varieties of parasites are there?

There are three classes of parasites and within each class are many

varieties of them. The known number of parasites today is around 130

different kinds.

Microscopic organisms known as Protozoa that are invisible to

the eye. They are one-celled but reproduce rapidly, can take over the

intestinal tract and from there go on to other organs and tissues.

They have been described as " microscopic vampires " .

Larger parasites or worms known as Nematoda that are visible

to the eye (if you know what you are looking for). They are

multicellular and multiply by producing eggs.

Tape worms known as Cestoda are the largest intestinal

inhabitants of man. They have a head that attaches to the intestinal

wall. As long as the head is attached a new worm can grow from it.

How can these parasites affect our health?

Hulga Clark states in her book that she has seen cases of eczema due

to roundworms; seizures from a single roundworm getting into the

brain; schizophrenia and depression from parasites in the brain;

asthma from a parasite in the lungs; diabetes from a parasite that

comes from cattle that settles in the pancreas; migraines from a

threadworm; acne rosacea from a parasite and some human heart disease

from the dog heartworm. She says the list goes on. There have even

been some reports that parasite infection is suspected in cases of

lupus, MS, Alzheimer's, and cancers. One thing we know for certain is

that parasites compromise the immune system and when the immune

system is not strong all kinds of degenerative conditions can result.

Louise Gittleman says that many unexplained health conditions often

disappeared when parasites were eliminated from the body. These

conditions included " environmental illness, skin prob-lems, digestive

problems, excessive fatigue, hypoglycemia, arthritic-like pains, long-

standing obesity, and even depression. "

Why don't doctors often diagnose parasites?

Many parasite-based problems can mimic diseases that are more

familiar to the doctor. Round-worm infection has been misdiagnosed as

peptic ulcer; amoebic colitis is often mislabeled as ul-cerative

colitis; chronic fatigue syndrome and yeast infection may be a

chronic case of giardiasis; diabetes and hypoglycemia may be caused

by tapeworm infection.

Parasitology courses (study of human parasites) are usually offered

by a tropical disease depart-ment meaning that the medical community

generally perceives parasites as primarily a foreign concern. In

addition, it is difficult to accurately diagnose the problem because

the parasite's own reproductive cycle in which eggs or cysts are

passed at irregular intervals makes diagnosis tricky.

Finally... To A Solution!!

Herbal books refer to the following herbs as being effective for

parasite elimination. They are: Black Walnut Hulls, Diatomaceous

Earth, Cloves, Garlic, Pumpkin Seeds, Wormwood, Butter-nut Root Bark,

Pinkroot, Goldenseal, Sage, Tansy, Fennel, Thyme, Cranberry Powder,

Male Fern, Grape Seed Extract.

You may in fact be taking one or more of these ingredients; however,

they may not be in a high enough amount to initially rid the body of

the parasites, but would be adequate to provide protection against

future infection once you clear up the condition. So here is how

people have been having great results with this high power cleanse:

A 30 day program is not enough, I recommend 60 †" 90 days the

first

time you cleanse. Clive Buchanan, iridologist and herbalist from

Utah, says that in situations such as Alzheimers, it can take up to 5

years to detoxify parasites from the brain. You may find yourself

becoming an avid " stool watcher " (I never thought I would either) and

perhaps you will see some parasites evacuating through the

intestines; however, remember that most of them are microscopic in

size. What you may notice are the symptoms you were experiencing,

start to disappear.

While doing this program, maintaining or obtaining good elimination

is an absolute must. The Paraway may be somewhat constipating so

LiFiber and Nature's Tea will become your best friends. Continue

consuming your other favorite herbal products throughout the cleanse.

Herbs are nothing more than potent, powerful foods that provide the

nutrients that our bodies need to regain and stay healthy. Perhaps 50

or 100 years ago, foods had those nutrients; how-ever, today they

don't and we need only to look at the high incidence of cancer, heart

disease, depression, fatigue etc. to know that is true.

Should Children be De-Wormed?

Absolutely, if you want ultimate health for your children. Children

pick up parasites too. Put-ting dirty hands, and other objects in

their mouths, sharing cups, food and toys with other chil-dren who

may be infected and not washing their hands properly after using the

bathroom or han-dling the family cat are only a few ways of becoming

infected with parasites.

Food For Thought Summary

If you suspect parasites could be part of your health challenges or

have some of the symptoms listed above, do the parasite cleanse. You

will not experience any ill side effects if no parasites exist.

Internal cleansing whether it is for parasites, cardiovascular,

bowel, blood, lymph or whatever else you want to cleanse is essential

for health.

So you're tired of hearing about cleansing?

Well, if you are 40 years old, let me ask you this. How many showers

or baths have you taken in your lifetime to cleanse your skin and

hair... 40 years x 365 days = 14,600. That many? Well it sound like

that's enough and from now on you don't have to cleanse your skin or

hair any-more. Is there any logic to that?

Apply that same concept to cleaning your teeth, twice a day for 40

years = 29,200 times you've brushed them. Then ask yourself this, if

you have to keep cleansing your skin, hair, nails and teeth, then

wouldn't you think it makes equal sense to continually take action to

clean the inside of your body? Food for thought, isn't it?
