Hello,

My name is Katie. I am 26, I have 6 children, and one on the way. I

went to a 100% raw diet over 5 months ago. My children have also

significantly increased their raw foods.

My oldest child has been suffering from petit mal seizures for about

3 years now. I didn't think anything of it since they run in my

mother's family, and are grown out of in time with no ill side

effect. I have been giving her some calming nerve herbs, and

hormonal herbs to help with it, which seemed to help.

A few days ago she went into a grand mal seizure before my eyes! It

lasted over a minute. I gave her lobelia to stop it, which it did,

and then cayenne to bring her around. It still took 30 minutes for

her to become responsive again. I have put her on a 70% raw diet,

and will increase to nearly 100% raw.

She is also diabetic (controlled by a unrefined no sugar diet) and

hyperactive. I believe that maybe the seizure was brought on by her

approaching puberty. She is only 10, but I went through puberty at

10, and so did my sister. Early pubescence runs in my father's

family. My father also had an epileptic sister.

I have her on Dr. Christopher's B & B tincture now, and am making her

take lobelia every time she has a petit mal.

If any of you could give me more information on the natural treatment

of epilepsy, some links, whole raw foods that are especially good for

it healing, or additional herbs I would greatly appreciate it.

Thank you,

Katie

Hi Katie,

I suffered Grand Mal seizures when I was an

adolescent. The drs were never able to find a physical

cause so for years I never knew WHY. I personally

think that the treatment depends on what the cause is.

Since she is also diabetic, you might look into the

ketogenic diet which has been used to successfully

treat epilepsy. I personally have had success with a

low carb/pretty high fat diet and have had no seizures

for 20 years. I also tend to diabetes but am not

insulin dependent and with the low carb diet my blood

sugars are low. Dr Raymond Peat recommends coconut oil

and a good dose of Vitamin E. He has done a lot of

work tieing seizures to hormonal imbalances and

recommends that epileptics stay away from unsaturated

fats(mainly because of the free radicals generated).

Coconut oil is the best saturated fat.

This is just what has worked for me. I realize you are

eating a mainly raw diet. If so, that probably

eliminates fat from your diet. Fat serves a useful

purpose and if you added coconut oil that might be

helpful.

Katie, if your sister balks at changing from butter to oil, mix equal amounts of the two together and mix well. It makes a soft spread, much better for her than the butter alone. Patty

Thank you Cindy, I will look into some of your suggestions.

My raw diet is by no means deprived of fat. We eat raw extra virgin

cold pressed olive oil in raw salad dressings, plenty of avocados,

and raw nuts and seeds. My daughter isn't into the olive oil, (loves

the nuts and avocados) she likes butter instead. Now that I have a

real reason to be more strict I am transitioning her on to the olive

oil as well.

Thank you for your help, I believe that what works for one is

certainly worth a try.

Dear Katie,

Sounds as if you are definitely on the right track here, but just need some refinements.

Have you had her tested for allergies?

Does she drink much milk?

Eat much bread?

Need a little more data here.

I am sorry it has taken me so long to reply, but I have been out of

state for the last week.

She isn't allergic to wheat. She has always had home made whole

wheat bread as a staple in her daily diet, but I am moving her to a

live food diet, so that is becoming less all the time.

She doesn't drink milk, it has never been part of her diet. She has

had a it 2 or three times a year maybe, but no more than that.

She has had cheese moderately, but I have cut that out now as well.

She didn't want to give up butter, but I have made her a nice olive

oil, avocado, lemon, garlic, onion, dill dressing that she likes on

salad, and we will be experimenting on others instead of butter.

I know I cannot just cut out all of her oils, but what I have been

studying shows that animal oils, as well as cooked oils are very

damaging to the nervous system. So we will have to be creative.

She has had 2 more seizures since I made my first post to this list.

The second was about half as bad as the first, and the third was

about half as bad as the second. The second one was 7 days after the

first after having pancakes for breakfast with a friend, and one this

morning, was after not having any sugar for a 6 days. The first one

she had was the morning after my brother baby sat for me, and gave

her cookies and cheetoes. She has never really consumed much sugar.

I had a thought out of the blue last night though, she has been using

gel cam fluoride treatment for the last 2 months, and I wondered if

it could be complicating things. I had her tested on it by a

Kinesiologist, and it turns out that it significantly weakens her

central nervous system. Needless to say, the gel cam went in the

trash this morning. She had never use tooth paste before the last 6

months, she had always used an herbal tooth powder instead.

Besides the diabetes, and hyperactivity I am sure she has heavy metal

poisoning, since the water we drank for the first 7 years of her life

was contaminated with arsenic. We didn't know about the arsenic

until the year before we moved, but then we started drinking

distilled water. We still had to bathe in it however.

Please, if there is anything that comes to mind I would appreciate

your suggestions, ideas, input.

Thank you,

Katie

Thank you for your reply.

We don't eat peanuts, or cashews. We only eat raw nuts. We don't

use walnuts much because they are bleached when shelled, and more

expensive in the shell where we live.

We buy raw nuts in the shell: almonds, pecans, brazil nuts, hazel

nuts, and a few walnuts.

She will eat all the avocados I will let her, and I am getting some

olive oil into her diet by blending it creamy with avocado.

I was going to get her something mild tasting like almond oil, but

found that it was bleached, heated, and otherwise processed.

Olive oil is the only raw unprocessed oil I have been able to find so

far, and is what I have been using myself for the last 6 months.

It is my 10 year old daughter, not my sister.

I am really trying to get her away from the animal fats, as this has

really helped my MS, and I have read research saying that the animal

fats are damaging to the nervous system.

We have experimented a little and found she likes the olive oil when

it is mixed with olive oil.

Thank you for your support,

Sorry, but I don't have time for it. I barely manage to keep up with my e-mail load as it is, and with the back and forth of one question leading to another, I'd be on the computer 24 hrs a day typing my fingers off.
