Guest guest
Hi there group! First, I'd like to say that I really enjoy reading these posts. You are all so smart about this stuff! I'm not sure if this topic has ever come up before. I've checked the archives but don't find anything about it..... I am trying to treat the symptoms of uterine fibroid tumors in order to avoid surgery. I'm 44 years old and hope to ride this out till menopause when they will shrink and become a-symptomatic on their own. After trying many different things I am currently taking cayenne and vitamin A. Vitamin A - 30,000 IU twice a day. According to what I've read, this may be a toxic level. How long would it be safe to take this much? Should I take this much all month long or lower the dose at some point in my cycle? What would be the adverse effects that I might watch for? Any advice from the Naturopath's out there? Thanks you very much, Jessie
Guest guest
That's an awful lot of Vitamin A. Definitely not safe, not even for a day. Where did you get the idea that this would be a good thing to do? I tend to be very conservative about this. 5,000 units a day is my generally accepted level, but most manufacturers are doing 10,000. I recently switched to a new brand, and have noticed that it works better, although more slowly than what i was taking. That may be a good sign. Ideally, you should get most of your Vitamin A from foods, but nobody wants to eat that many carrots. If you want to discuss specific brands, email me privately. You also may want to look into Wild Yam. Given what you've said about the tumors it would be best to have this checked with your naturopath or acupuncturist.
