Hi Doc..

Just adding my two cents... I am an amateur musician.. piano.... guitar and voice.. and can attest to music's ability to heal. I don't have the information or knowledge to pass along exactly how music affects us. I can only say in my case that it soothes me.. makes me feel more peaceful..when I play certain music that elicits that response. Other times I can be feeling down... start working on my music..and as a result my mood improves significantly. IMO the mind/body connection is VERY strong... and music is definitely healing.. I'm sure in ways I have no idea.. will be very interesting to read further information posted here on the subject. When I was at my worst with my chemical injury symptoms.. living the "bubble life" so to speak..I grabbed my collection of classical piano CD's and my Simon and Garfunkel music :). There is no question in my mind it saved me. After 5 years of not being able to play my piano .. I just got it tuned and once again sit there for hours immersing myself. Same with singing. Music is a very important and necessary part of my life. I could go on and on about music but will spare you :)

Dear Michael,

I've got a project that I think you are the man to handle.

As you know, I have done a lot of research in the area of vibration and sound in regards its saluatory effects. And there can be no doubt that music has its place in healing.

If you're willing, I'd like to have catagorized in full, what MUSIC is good for what illnesses, what organs, etc.etc.

This may take some extensive research on your part (if you haven't already done so ;o), but I think it is vital.

Again, if you're willing, we'll post your research in the files under its own heading under "Musical Remedies".

What say old son?

Howdy --

This is really neat! Actually i have written a book on the subject, but

have not found a publisher for it. But i could condense a lot of the

information into such a file for you. Also if you want, you could pull a

file off my web site, called " 7 Keys to Health " , which is intended for

musicians and explains the Pythagorean modal system (which is used in almost

all European and American music) in terms of healing potential.

My wife just left for New York for a while, and i could use more stuff to do

with my flying fingers.

Michael, this is absolutely great. Thank you. One thing I might ask is that you edit your work towards the direction of simplicity. This is one of the areas that I "try" (not always successfully ;o) to focus on when communicating to the general public. I think it is essential that this data is communicated in such a way that the "man on the street" can understand what is being said. Nomenclature (special words used in a specific subject) can sometimes get very 'techinical' and throw anyone not familiar with the subject into a tizzy.

Anywho, I really appreciate you taking this on with your schedule (wife being gone, etc.). Absolutely no time limit on the project of course; getting around to it when you can would be awesome.

Love,

Doc

No need to 'spare' us Beth. I loved your input here. I can hardly wait for some of Michael's articles on which music does what. One thing I know about my own production level when working. I get twice as much done when listening to fast paced rock and roll ;o)

Same is true here Doc. I put on some lively music depending on the mood to get this body on the treadmill or my exercise bike! Works like magic! Sometimes R & R other times I put on disco or Latin music to really get me going!

When something really needs to get done, there's nothing like the pure forms

of African music. After listening to African material, you will find disco,

rock, and Latin can seem wimpy by comparison. Some of my favorite African

artists are:

Manu Dibango

Ladysmith Black Mambazo

King Sunny Ade

Commander Ebenezer Obey

Mandingo

Osibisa

Those should give you a good start.

Sounds good Michael. Nowwwwwwww, what titles would you recommend by these artists??? I've heard one album (album?? what in hell is that??? ;o), by Ladysmith Black Mambazo and loved it.

What are your favorite titles???

I've heard there is a CD that is nothing but drum solos (not sure if it is African or not), which will simply enchant anyone. Do you know of this one??

The African artists i listed, you would do well with any of their titles.

Since they can be hard to find, that should help. I took pains to list

people who haven't put out any clinkers to my knowledge.

Another one to add to the list is the Mthembu Queens. Bizarre costumes,

great music.

Lots of drum solo CDs are out there. Probably the most popular over the

past few years has been " Earth Tribe Rhythms " by Brent Lewis. That's

probably what you're thinking of -- it's very enchanting.
