Hi everyone,

I am new to to this group. My name is Fahad Ullah Khan. Im am writing because

of two reasons. Firstly my

mother who has suffered from breast cancer in the past, has a very weak immune

system, shehas a toe nail fungus

problem which despite heavy anti biotics has never gone away, and it gets worse

every day, shes even developing

in grown toe nails and has to physically remove them very often. Secondly for

the last 4 years have suffered

from weak stomach. I had eaten a chinese meal outside which unfortunatly

resulted in food poisoning. I did

not go and see a doctor for 9 months thinking it would go away. When I did see

him i was given a course of anti

biotics to take. Since then I have become allergic to a number of foods such as

garlic, coriander seeds, milk,

food cooked in any dairy product such as yoghurt or milk , and mint tends to

leave me constipated. I have

become obbessive with what I eat and I dont. I am based in Pakistan at the

moment, and I have to daily make

sure everything is cooked and boiled very carefully. I tend to get food

poisoning , and gastro entitis much

more often and my stomach generally is often suffering from some digestive

complaint each month, whether it is

indigestion or mild food poisoning. I am really tired of taking things like

secnadizole and anti bacterial

tablets or antibiotics. I would appreicate any help in this matter. Apart from

that my appetite is good and I

lead a healthy life with exercise regularly.

Thank you,

Fahad

Dear Fahad,

Sounds like you and your mother could use some good cleansing and some good immune system work.

I'd recommend the Total Body Cleanse as found in the files with extra attention placed on Echinacea if you can get it.

I'm not sure if you can get all of these herbs over there, and if you can't, I'd recommend a lot of juicing, and the use of garlic in very small quantities since you say you are allergic to it. (Sometimes what you think is an allergy is just too rapid a detox and appears to be an allergy). I've never, ever found anyone who was truly allergic to garlic, and by starting off small, they could finally build up to a decent dosage and actually found a healing using those things they were "allergic" to.

Hope this helps.

Love,

Doc

One thing that has been a mystery to me, is why one particular group, the

Ananda Marga Yoga Society, is against garlic. They are strict vegetarians,

and they add to that prohibitions against both garlic and onions. Is it

that these would conflict with vegetarianism? Or is this just something

that's a small part of an overall technology that they do, that only makes

sense within that larger picture, and does not apply to the rest of us?

My experience with Ananda Marga people is that they are definitely the

healthiest folks you could imagine. This is especially significant because

their most active disciples put themselves under a level of stress that most

of us could not even begin to believe. I have seen these people go through

intense privation, and even have seen a few who were put in very bad

situations, with no food available for long times in very bad environments.

And yet they simply never get sick! They try to specialize in doing

disaster relief, and they can go without food or sleep for very long periods

while working constantly in various capacities. Many of them are trained in

homeopathy, and they have started several clinics around the world.

I don't even know why i'm thinking about them so much these past few days.

But i bring them up because their level of health is so extraordinary, and i

am inviting comments on this whole picture.

Hi Michael,

Onions and garlic are good sources of the sulphur amino acids cysteine and

methionine which are involved in the

glutathione free radical control system. So on the face of it, it would seem

odd not to eat them for health benefits.

I do.

Cysteine and methionine are plentiful in egg yolks, red peppers, animal muscle

protein, garlic, onion, asparagus,

brussels sprouts, cabbage, broccoli, and cauliflower. The minerals selenium,

zinc, magnesium and vanadium help recycle

glutathione. Alpha lipoic acid also recycles glutathione.

Hi Michael,

Here is more info:

http://www.indianfoodscompany.com/Ayurveda/Alchemy.htm

In India, foods generally have three states or stages. These states are called

1) Sattavic

2) Rajasic

3) Tamasic.

For example an apple when it is just ripe and plucked from the tree it will be

in the Sattavic state. When it lies on

the counter or grocery shelf for a few days its state turns to Rajasic and when

it starts to get soft and brown it has

entered the Tamasic stage.

- Eating fresh foods and in moderation is considered sattavic and helps to

preserve youth, such a person is alert, and

in harmony with nature.

- Eating highly salty, oily, fast foods are considered rajasic. Eating your meal

quickly and under stress is also

rajasic. The person consuming such food loses the capacity to distinguish subtle

stimuli and can be prone to disease.

- Food that is stale, overcooked, cooked eight hours earlier than consumption,

liquor, drugs and overeating are

considered tamasic.. Tamasic foods robs the person of the capacity to think

clearly and disease and lethargy set in.

========================

Why onions and garlic are considered Tamasic foods, which they are, again seems

strange. More research needed.

Lots to think about here. I don't always consider those three

characteristics of food, but they are important too. They go beyond the

body types, because no body type should have to eat tamasic food to any

great extent. But our society demands that we eat more of that, for so many

reasons. We're taught to conserve leftovers in so many traditional

families, for example. And then there are French Fries, which are probably

the most tamasic food in existence.

Another aspect of this, is that in Indian society any expression of

aggression or anger is absolutely forbidden. Since those exist anyway, lots

of conflicts result within each person, and these don't just go away because

we've managed to eliminate all rajasic foods. Instead, they are either

manifested as covert actions all over the place, or as terrorist movements.

There have been many of those throughout Indian history -- after all,

they're the people who invented the concept of religious thugs.

BTW my impression of rajasic foods is more the highly spiced things, like

curry dishes and of course fresh chili.

I have experienced eating purely Sattvic foods, when i used to show up at

the Hare Krishna Society a lot at various times in my life. Those foods

really do impart a sense of personal power that you don't get any other way.

But i never did figure out how to cook like that.

Perhaps with all the huge variety of other things available in India, onions

and garlic are not necessary.

And i'm writing this while eating one of my typical dinners of hot dogs and

popcorn.

It may be that the strong smells of there foods were associated with the strong

smells of spoilt food and thus gralic

and onions were relegated to the Tamasic catagory.

You have to be kidding ;-)) right?

Have you tried KIM to look at your Omega 6 to 3 ratios? This is a very powerful

piece of software and it looks as if

someone in the US NIH is really on the ball!
