Guest guest
I have an unconventional question - we have had several sightings of bear and mountain lions near housing areas in our community. I will be on a hike/campout with a group of young girls this weekend into a canyon. Some of them may be on their " moon time " . Are there any herbs or tricks in covering up their " scent " , so to speak, at that time of the month. I have heard this can attract bears and other wild animals. Being that they have been really close to humans lately around here, this concerns me. I already know how to deal with precautions around our food, trash, toothpaste and other " sweet smelling " toiletries, but this one I'm not so sure what to do about. Thank you! Guest guest
Have the affected girls rub their legs with sage. Not sure where you are, but there is sage growing in many parts of the continent. Also give them a good talk about what to do if attacked by a bear. Everyone should have that information anyway, and this is a good time to pass it on. You might want to consider buying a couple cans of cayenne pepper spray. This has been proven to be much more effective against bears than guns are. It's expensive but worth it.
