Guest guest
HI all, My son, William, has low functioning-non verbal autism. He is 10 and you could consider him a "throw away" since, in the eyes of professionals, he'll never amount to anything. My goal for years has been to get him progressing at a fast enough rate that professionals would take an interest in him. I finally reached a point that I thought "screw them" and just allow him to be William-whatever that was. There are a number of biological treatments and diets that work for some and not for others. So, what's gonna work for William? I have researched and tried everything that made sense to me. He has always progressed but very, very slowly. My goal changed and became to make his little autistic body as healthy as possible to avoid heart disease, cancer etc when he got older. Now the dilemma was what diet and supplemental regimen is the best for that. I found this group. Everything sounds pretty sensible to me. I phone Doc and we talk about William's history and what to do for him. Doc thinks we can make this go away. I've never heard THAT from anyone. He gives me the answers I've been searching and praying for. So it's been about 3-4 weeks, William watches cartoons, plays with the puppy (not your typical 10 yr. old games but they are playing)!, has more eye contact, is aware of what's going on(he has made it his "job" to let the dogs in or out without being asked to), responds to the therapy we do at home a lot more. I could go on and on but here's the big one. My MIL babysat with him today while I went to my niece's wedding. Whenever she sits with him, I always have to hear about how much of a handful he is and what am I going to do when he gets bigger, she's afraid he's gonna hurt me done day blah blah blah. Well, today when I got home-none of that! He was happy to play outside was no trouble. This is HUGE. She always expects the worse and he always gives it to her. But today-not one negative comment! I believe we can make this go away. Love, Ann in Memphis
Guest guest
Ann it is so wonderful to hear of the progress made by these "throw aways" when natural measures are taken. Keep us posted. I know mothers on other lists that have autistic children and it always gives me a big lift when they write a long letter describing a small success that the rest of the world just takes for granted, but that mainstream medicine has said would never happen for them.
