Guest guest
Hi guys, I've been thinking about something for some time now. I don't know enough about ayurvedic theory to answer this but I know it comes into play here. This is probably a pitta imbalance I guess. Maybe someone has ideas. I am trying to figure how to keep my body in balance. Sometimes I crave the spice. I will spice all my foods, and go out of my way for jalapenos, habeneros, cayenne - can't get enough of them. This period can last anywhere from a few days to a few months. Then the craving disappears. I go through cycles. This isn't really a problem that is affecting my life but I am just trying to figure out why I go off like this. If anyone has any ideas let me know. In the meantime I'll savor the jalapenos. Guest guest
One aspect of ayurvedic theory is that spicy foods will tend to cultivate the " rajas " nature. This is what makes people active, agressive, and in its extreme form, angry. There are cautions against spicy food sprinkled throughout many Hindu scriptures. But remember that in India, any expression of anger or agressiveness is regarded with great disgust. Americans are not so constricted by social prohibitions in this area. Outside of ayurvedic medicine, these peppers are believed by many to work against parasites, particularly those that prey on the intestinal tract. They may indeed have some effectiveness in this area, but i don't know of any good studies on this. Given the huge variety of both peppers and tropical parasites, it would probably be impossible to do a proper study anyway.
