All I know is it contains the substance amygdalin (as do bitter almonds) which

is a substance related to the cyanide family of chemicals, and has been used

with a degree of success, though inconsistantly, in treating cancers. It also

has been considered in replacing Methyl bromide, a carcinogenic fungicide (?)

used in raising some conventional strawberries.

According to one study i read a long time ago, people in part of Georgia

(the old one, not the new one) roast & eat apricot kernels regularly. They

also eat lots of almonds. Supposedly cancer is unknown among these people,

and some of them live to extraordinary ages. This is in a remote part of

the Caucasus mountains, making the information currently difficult to

verify. Next time i run into someone from those parts i'll ask.
