Guest guest
Hello everyone! I just signed up a few days ago and today I had over a hundred messages in my inbox. I've never been a member of a Group, so this is all really new to me. My aunt referred me to this group because I'm becoming ever-increasingly interested in natural healing methods. I desparately need some help losing weight, and FAST. I've been trying to join the active Army, but they won't take me if I don't meet certain body fat percentage requirements. I need to lose 20 pounds as soon as possible. I've tried the Lemonade diet, juice fasting, Herbalife, the Dr. Atkin's low carb diet, and even started a liver cleanse. I think one of my problems would be inconsistency, I never stick to anything for very long, but I really need some help. If anyone has any suggestions, please feel free to make as many as you would like. I'm currently taking Schizandra berries, cayanne pepper, and Kombucha supplementally, and trying to stick on a high protein/low carb shake diet. I am open to just about anything right now. I need to lose 20 pounds within the month, if possible! Holly Chilcott froot8loop Get email alerts & NEW webcam video instant messaging with Messenger http://im. Guest guest
Wow this is a tough problem. Part of the situation, which few people know about, is that the high mortality figures for " overweight " people are not due just to the supposedly excess weight. People die trying various diets and medicines, when their bodies are just built with lots of luxury cushioning. In the 1890's, our culture took a very materialistic turn, and started demanding that women look like half-starved orphans. So lots of practitioners rushed in with various diets and medications, many of which were (and are) truly dangerous. Then, about 20 years later, some insurance analyst looked over mortality rates and came to the false conclusion that being overweight causes a higher incidence of early death. It's not the weight! It's the attempts to take off weight that cause health problems. Sticking to diets is often impossible simply because the diet isn't providing basic nutrition in the first place. Some people should be on the heavy side. Those people are valuable to society, for many reasons. And interestingly enough there are people who find heavy folks attractive, even though they're not supposed to admit it. Now some health imbalances will cause excess weight. But in those cases, dieting and most medications are also counterproductive. What works is to find the original cause, which could be any number of things. In many cases, the original cause of excess weight is a food allergy. That can be relatively simple to clear up, because the food that a person is allergic to is often something the person craves intensely. Then it's a matter of cutting out that one food, gritting the teeth, and suffering through the withdrawal period. Here are a few other things that reliably have helped some people get rid of excess weight: falling in love working intensely on purpose (is being in the Army really your purpose in life?) eating mostly fruits and very light meals in the evenings having large breakfast or lunch, and little or no dinner daily saunas B vitamins taken in the mornings smoking pure tobacco cigarettes (not necessarily recommended) Any of these might help, but whether or not they do, depends entirely on one's fundamental body type. The program you're following now doesn't seem too destructive, but may not be effective either. Schizandria at least won't kill anyone. Cayenne improves circulation, and should be somewhat helpful in correnting imbalances in that area. Some shakes contain drugs that i find questionable. Many other shakes are mostly sugar, and really don't do anything one way or the other. A better alternative is to eat fresh fruit if you're hungry late at night, instead of the usual chips & dip that i used to love. I do wonder about the Kombucha. That's a fungus, and could potentially aggravate an existing fungus infection, if one is present. One thing i noticed during a huge Kombucha fad about ten years ago, was that the people who were raving about it were not getting any better. It almost felt to me like the mushroom was one of those parasites that sends signals out to its hosts, getting them to act in ways that spread the parasite. Last year there was a great article in Discovery magazine about research showing how many parasites do just that. Just curious -- what is it that you want to do in the Army? Guest guest
> Just curious -- what is it that you want to do in > the Army? > Well, all I really wanted was to get outta dodge and earn some money. But it'll be nice not to worry about tuition for school and finish up a couple degrees. I need to feel like I'm moving in a forward direction and moving with a purpose. I always felt at home and motivated to " do the right thing " in the Army. I'm in the Army National Guard, which allows me too much freedom, and I invariably screw myself up. I like the structure, the discipline and the idea of being a productive constituent of some greater whole, a team, some organization with a purpose. However, the Army itself is not my branch of choice, it's just the branch which provides the quickest solution to some of my most urgent problems, and is the most logical step to take which will put my more desirable goals closer at hand. Four short years in the Active Army will cut out maybe six long years of hard labor on the civilian side. I'll be able to cut out four years of this struggle with weight, money, college, and living at home, by devoting those four years to making the world a safer place for our brand of democracy, and making dirty water clean. Yep, that's me, a bonafide Army Water Girl! :0) > At 09:24 AM 9/10/01 -0700, you wrote: > >Hello everyone! > > > >I just signed up a few days ago and today I had > over a > >hundred messages in my inbox. Guest guest
I'm afraid if you do find a " diet " that helps you lose 20 pounds in a month, your body will be so depleted that boot camp will kill you. In order to help you, we need to know what makes you fat? Do you over eat. Do you eat the wrong (junk) foods, do you eat for comfort, do you have a thyroid difficency, do you drink diet sodas or eat so called diet foods?. .. .the list goes on and on. In order to help you loose weight safely, we need to know more about you. Guest guest
Well, I've been to boot camp already, but I will be doing some pretty rigorous work. I have some diabetics in my family. I am 23, I've been seriously gaining weight or overweight since I was 12. At that point I was going through a severe depression over my parents' divorce. I began overeating and eating a lot of refined sugars and flours. I didn't exercise, I just sat on my butt and watched TV. In high school I started taking aerobics classes, but didn't do anything consistently. I drank a lot of diet soda when I was about 19 or 20 when I was doing the Atkin's diet, working at a restaurant. I drank more diet coke than water. I still do have a hard time staying away from sweets, cereal and bread when I cheat on a diet...and by the way, I never stick with a diet very consistently. That, I know, makes it really hard. I am one of those who wants instant results and am depressed when it doesn't work out like that. I don't have any known thyroid disorders, but I have a lot of cysts of all sizes and shapes on my abdomen. I have had these cysts since at least the age of 13 or 14. I don't know how I got them, but I can guess. I have also been to Germany, when I once consumed " Saumagen " , or Pig Stomach, which I believe was properly cooked, but throughout the past three years I have had some problems resembling Trichonosis. Now, these symptoms were not as severe as a full-blown case, and they were spread out over the course of three years. I was also involved in a car accident, in which, I just found out, I got a " bruised brain " and a lot of " chiropractic " problems which I believe have caused me problems with my lungs, eyes, and possibly my immune system and digestive tract. These days I've been trying to do juice fasts and the " lemonade diet " , Herbalife (two shakes a day, vitamin and mineral supplements, high protein, low carb, etc...), nuts and berries, lots of fruits and veggies, and supplements like Kombucha, cayanne, and schizandra. I will usually have a can of tuna with mustard and miracle whip with some organic tomatoes for a meal. I also eat a few peaches, add a banana to one of my shakes, drink a little supertonic or goat's milk, maybe some trail mix, a spoonful of peanut butter, or some little natural or organic snack. I stay away from carbonation and sugared-up drinks and juices, and very rarely eat bread, cereal, candy, etc. Well, I hope this is enough for you to help me out. In particular, if you have any remedies for cysts, lung problems, and " bruised brain " . I'm really trying to get back the clarity and elevation of thought I was starting to develop again prior to my car accident. That and my lungs are my two biggest priorities. Thanks so much for your help!! Holly Get email alerts & NEW webcam video instant messaging with Messenger http://im.
Guest guest
Making dirty water clean? Are you studying wastewater treatment? My ex-wife, after getting divorced in 1976, was looking for a career. She wanted to do something that would help people and also get her outdoors a lot. After looking into law, nursing, and a few other things, she accidentally found water & wastewater treatment. She trained for a little over a year, and found afterwards she could take her pick of job openings. This field is simply not subject to layoffs. Her income was good, and she worked for many years with great satisfaction. There still are some special schools for this, mostly located at community colleges. I may be able to dig up more references. Sometimes it's even possible to get in with a small municipality, and work your way up while on the job. Certifications are given by various states, with lots of little quirks. So the Army may not be your ideal choice. There are some " poverty pockets " where even a wastewater treatment license won't get you a job, so you may need to move somewhere more civilized. But once you get a " B " license, you're in pretty good shape. You will also find that having a bit of body mass is a good thing in that field, because it is sometimes necessary to move equipment or chlorine cylinders. My ex-wife had a Vata body type, and so had to get fairly clever sometimes when having to shove things around. Guest guest
Diet coke is a huge red flag here. I remember coming across one research study that concluded people who often consume diet drinks actually end up gaining more weight. This was attributed to the phenomenon of sweet tastes which don't contain calories generally causing the appetite to increase. But there's a worse problem. Aspartame (Nutra-Sweet) is now almost univeraslly used in diet drinks. It should never have been approved for public consumption. In fact, in 1975 it was rejected by the US FDA. Aspartame is partly composed of methanol, a poisonous form of alcohol. This alone puts tremendous stress on the liver. If aspartame is heated to over 120 degrees, more of it changes to methanol, which might be one explanation for Gulf War Syndrome. (At that time large amounts of diet soda were shipped to the troops, and then often left out in the sun on pallets for several days before being consumed.) Aspartame also has been known to cause brain damage and epileptic fits. If you are still doing the diet cola thing, this would be a good time to stop. At least these things don't cause withdrawal symptoms like many other foods. Guest guest
Holly, I understand your need for instant gratification, but face it, it probably won't happen with a good nutrition program. I don't like the word diet. It smacks of depravation, and nobody needs to deprive their body to loose weight. I think Penny gave you some very good advice and I've already deleted the messages from that day, but if you need to, you can go to the archives and look it up. One thing I'm noticing is that you started gaining weight when your parents got a divorce. I'm guessing that somewhere in the back of your mind (or maybe not so far back) you don't feel very good about yourself. Even tho you may not be drinking the diet sodas instead of water anymore and may not be pigging out, you may have not resolved some of the issues you encountered then. My oldest daughter has some self esteem issues and when she gets down on herself, she gains weight. Find a way to build your self esteem. (I'm sorry, I'm not equiped to help you in that area). If you've been abroad and/or have the symptoms of Trichanosis there is a very high liklehood that you may need to do a parasite cleanse. I hope this helps some, and hang in there. Try not to get discouraged. Concern yourself more with your over-all health first, then focus on loosing weight. Sometimes when you feed your body an adequate diet everything balances. There have been several posts in the last 2 days concerning cysts, so I won't repeat them. As for the " bruised brain " my opinion is that MSM and vitamin E will be of great help. I don't personally have any experience with lungs per se. My " Mom's blend " tea contains equal parts of chamomile, echinacea (root or herb, but I prefer the root), mullein, yarrow, and if a cough is present, fenugreek. This works well for upper respiratory problems. Jennie holly chilcott wrote: > Well, I've been to boot camp already, but I will be > doing some pretty rigorous work.
