Guest guest
Dear Valerie, If I could find fresh Turmeric and grow it - I would use it - however - the only Turmeric that I canbuy is Certified Organic and is the ground Root. It comes from the Curcuma Longa and is mostly imported from India. The other ingredients are used fresh (especially the Horseradish ) because one loses a lot of the value of the aromatic oils when they are dried. I even tried drying the Organic Horse radish and using that but it does NOT have the same quality. I add the Turmeric inthe Blender when I make all the other ingredients. You can use powdered cayenne peppers. I actually dry my own home grown peppers and use them without grinding them. This means that you get a much hotter Turmeric super Tonic. Becasue the bulk of dried peppers gives you more peppers than fresh ones. Turmeric has to be taken in larger quantities to get a good effect. It is not a spice that gives an IMMEADIATE effect like say - Valerian - or Kava Kava - both of which can produce an immeadiate soporific effect. Turmeric takes some time to work. For joint problems, in Ayurvedic medicine, one takes 1 ounce per day for several days.....in a glass of water. The Original Super Tonic recipe fro mSchultze uses ONLY fresh ingredients. I have added Turmeric and make a seperate Turmeric Super Tonic for those who do have any sort of joint problems. It would, to get the best effect from Turmeric, be best to back it up with a Tincture made with Vodka or Everclear, as the alcohol would extract other qualities that the vinegar would not. So, if someone was suffering from chronic joint problems, and I deemed that Turmeric shoud be used - then it could be taken in all of these three ways. However, there are other ways to handle joint problems and the solution would depend upon many other factors. One of which is using the herbs that grow on the person's doorstep. In The south - I would recommend a tincture of Magnolia bark -for instance...............and a decoction of the cones or bark - even a tea of the leaves. But Turmeric Super Tonic is like an all round every day supplement that can easily be taken and adds taste to various fooda and sandwhiches..............Love Penny (unlike the chemical industrey - we are not rocket scientists - interestingl enough plants also vary in their composition so where do we get this mania for exact amounts each time and specific dosages?...from the radical Chemical Industry)

Guest guest
Wow, Penny, you have really OUTDONE yourself with the clarity of this subject! This is terrific....very, very helpful. I'm printing it out to save forever and putting it in my files (which often get lost in my horrible computer filing system, of course). Thanks so much for your efforts in this!
