A few years ago, we were put " on the map " by saying that this area known as

Hampton Roads (Hampton, Newport News, Chesapeake, Portsmouth, Norfolk, and

Virginia Beach) is second in obesity to only New Orleans!

One body type, Pitta, tends to crave cold water. I know all that stuff about

how cold water is supposed to be bad for us, but i'm not about to stop drinking

it at this point. Will do other things, but i have to have at least one vice

left in life. I gave up booze, drugs, sugar, and a few other bad habits so far.

Giving up cold water and seltzer is simply asking too much!

Count Basie lived a very long life and was known for his excellent health -- i

don't think he ever missed a gig in over 50 years. All he ever drank was warm

water.

I do know that too much exposure to cold can create excess fat in Pitta and

Kapha people. Sometimes too much heat can do the same thing. The body in these

cases is trying to create extra insulation. These macho guys who parade around

in December and January with no shirts are setting themselves up for huge fat

problems later in life.

When i visited North Carolina, i was struck by how many Kapha men become obese

in that area. It seemed like i saw more guys like that there than elsewhere.

There must be something to that stereotype of obese Southern men. It is also

interesting how it was Southerners who created most of the sugared, carbonated

soft drink formulas. Pepsi was invented in New Bern, just a couple of towns

over from where i was. There is some significance to all this, and i really am

trying to know more about it.

conventionally you are told to drink cold water, as it makes you lose weight by

having to expend calories to reheat the water to body temperature; likewise,

you've heard to keep your liquids to a minimum at meals, as it dilutes the

digestive juices; now that's being debated (cold or hot!).
