Guest guest
'Conventionally' perhaps, but I have never heard of an alternative practitioner recommending cold water. Its 'logical' that cold water may help you lose weight by your body needing to heat it up, but a pretty warped logic. Why not run a round with no clothes on in winter? That will burn a lot of energy! or how about eating ice? Surely that will slow down the metabolism instead- cold does that! Even before I studied Ayurveda, I knew cold water was not good for you- it makes sense. The Chinese say it too. The stomach is the centre of digestion and in all cultures, apart from the west, it is regarded as being the central 'fire' of the body. The 'fire' of digestion.Obviously it is energetic rather than physical.Cold food and drinks inhibit this digestive 'fire'. As for liquids with meals, I think moderation is the key. A glass of liquid with a meal i think is quite ok- many glasses, or 'a few beers' is too much. A happy medium, as always. The yogis say fill your stomach one third with food one third with liquid, and leave the other third empty. love Peela --- Steve <bigbird3969 wrote: > That only goes to widen the gap between eastern and > western beliefs, as here conventionally you are told > to drink cold water, as it makes you lose weight by > having to expend calories to reheat the water to > body temperature; likewise, you've heard to keep > your liquids to a minimum at meals, as it dilutes > the digestive juices; now that's being debated (cold > or hot!). > > Steve > ----------------------------- > Regarding hot water and ginger, I was about to write > a > post on this in the water topic that was going on, > but > I will write it here. > In Ayurveda they recommend you- everyone- drink hot > water.
