Guest guest
Heres my 2 cents on the discipline and spanking issue. I have read all the books, soul searched and made rigid decisions. In the end,my kids are 7 and 5, my natural style seems to be that I dont actually believe in spanking and I dont believe it is necessary at all. I really dont. However, I have spanked. Out of anger. Not more than a couple, and not very often. And when I am angry, and I spank, I usually walk away and come back when I have calmed down and talk about it. I often apologise and say sorry mummy lost her temper, I dont lke it when i lose my temper. Maybe not such a good example to my kids, but it feels real. I am angry when I am angry. And when it passes, I forgive and get over it and talk about it, and they know they may have triggered my temper, but I take responsibility for it. They get the message though. My husband is much stricter than me, always has been. It used to upset me, but my kids are happy and secure and very strong people who wont be swayed by others getting angry with them. They are pretty obedient and sensible, not the kind of kids who would ever run on the road or jump into water before they could swim. Maybe its their natures, or just a combination of our parenting styles and their natures. Who knows. I never condone spanking. I dont think kids 'should' be spanked. I dont think my kids ever 'needed' spanking. But, I have spanked them occasionally, in anger, and a response to extreme stubborness or a major tantrum. Its not really 'spanking' then, is it? Its hitting. i have hit them. And I dont think they have sufferred unduly. I am honest with them about my values- and they know I am human. I am just myself, and thats all I can be- I am doing my best, as are they. love peela ===== May the long time sun shine upon you, all love suround you, and the pure light within you guide your way on.
