kapha body type

Yes, drinking any tea with ginger is also good. I find that Celestial

Seasoning's " Bengal Spice " is a great kapha balancing tea.

" Light foods " is a very tricky concept in America. In this context, what is

meant, is a mild sweetness, but little fat. That's hard to find. Fats in a

Kapha diet should be present but not overwhelming. It's important to make

sure that certain fats, like flax oil and olive oil, are present. But too

much coconut, soy, or palm oil can be a problem. Fish is generally good for

Kapha people. Graham crackers, oddly enough, are also good for this body type.

The only place i ever found ideal Kapha foods on a consistent basis was at

the Hare Krishna Temple in Denver where they have an excellent restaurant.

That only goes to widen the gap between eastern and western beliefs, as here

conventionally you are told to drink cold water, as it makes you lose weight by

having to expend calories to reheat the water to body temperature; likewise,

you've heard to keep your liquids to a minimum at meals, as it dilutes the

digestive juices; now that's being debated (cold or hot!).

Regarding hot water and ginger, I was about to write a

post on this in the water topic that was going on, but

I will write it here.

In Ayurveda they recommend you- everyone- drink hot

water. Cold water dampens the digestive fires. I have

been getting into the habit and it is wonderful, it

feels very nurturing. They recommend it for losing

weight and for cleansing, but as a daily habit for

everyone. You can add a pinch of ginger, it is warming

to the system and excellent for the digestion, so good

before/ during meals.

I think in the heat of summer I would dring room temp

water though. Its winter going into spring here now.

As for dry light foods, it means crunchy foods like

crackers and salads. It means not oily heavy moist

foods, because oily/ heavy/ moist are qualities of

kapha- and if kapha is out of balance, these should be

avoided for a while.

As Steve said, just because you have kapha out of

balance, doesnt mean you have a kapha consitution. But

if it is out of balance, its good to follow a more

kapha regime till it comes back into balance.

its very in depth, theres lots of Ayurvedic sites

which will give you the basics, just type in Ayurveda

One body type, Pitta, tends to crave cold water. I know all that stuff

about how cold water is supposed to be bad for us, but i'm not about to stop

drinking it at this point. Will do other things, but i have to have at

least one vice left in life. I gave up booze, drugs, sugar, and a few other

bad habits so far. Giving up cold water and seltzer is simply asking too much!

Count Basie lived a very long life and was known for his excellent health --

i don't think he ever missed a gig in over 50 years. All he ever drank was

warm water.

I do know that too much exposure to cold can create excess fat in Pitta and

Kapha people. Sometimes too much heat can do the same thing. The body in

these cases is trying to create extra insulation. These macho guys who

parade around in December and January with no shirts are setting themselves

up for huge fat problems later in life.

When i visited North Carolina, i was struck by how many Kapha men become

obese in that area. It seemed like i saw more guys like that there than

elsewhere. There must be something to that stereotype of obese Southern

men. It is also interesting how it was Southerners who created most of the

sugared, carbonated soft drink formulas. Pepsi was invented in New Bern,

just a couple of towns over from where i was. There is some significance to

all this, and i really am trying to know more about it.

without cold drinks completely.

The Hare Krishna Temple is at 14th and Cherry in Denver, about 6 blocks east

of Colorado Blvd. It's a very pink building, but the signs are not easily

seen. They are usually open for lunch and dinner, and have a buffet style.

No set prices, just donations.

Just wish they had one up in Cheyenne. Or maybe if someone figured out

their cooking and would do it commercially -- that would be cool.

Once i met a fellow in Sarasota Florida who had started a vegetarian fast

food place called " Froggy's " . He had some kind of proprietary technique for

making " air fries " , potatos cooked without oil. He said that he was going

to make it into a chain. Wonder if he ever got that going? Unfortunately

the name was terrible, and that needed to be handled.
