Hi,

I have a very good friend who is horribly troubled with sinus congestion

that he's had for years. He will get a cortisone shot every 2nd or 3rd

month, which relieves the congestion for about a month but then it comes

back. He says he is willing to try any herbs or advice that would help him.

I gave him some cayenne capsules recently, thinking it would open his

sinuses but after 2 weeks, he had to quit them because this upset his

stomach. Can anyone help with advice of what to do or take?

Thank you,

You should be able to find blank inhalers at the health food store, then you can put what you want on them. I have used a blend of basil, eucalyptus, peppermint and lemon with good results. It would allow the sinus to open up and run for a little while, then I would have to smell it again. Also, a drop on your pillow case before bed helps to. I would not use equal ratios of the EO's as both Basil and Peppermint are really strong and the Lemon takes more to get a good scent.

Hope this helps,

Jean,

I used to get an inhaler made with eucalyptyus, teatree and peppermint.. I cant find i anymore but it was great. I have a mix of tea tree, eucalyptus and peppermint and water that I use on occassion. I mix several drops of each and fill with water. I never knew the mixture that was used. Goldenseal is supposed to be good and garlic seems to help if you take it pretty regularly. But I understand, I have sinus and allergy.

Golden Seal has, in my experience, worked best with infections rather than

chronic situations. It is apparently one of the few substances in this

universe that will perform an action against viruses. It is best taken

Indian style, tasted fully before going down. And if more than a gram is

taken, there may be an increased heartbeat -- not really threatening but scary.

Your other recommendations are excellent for this condition, particularly

because it's chronic.

If the person wants to do homeopathic medicine, then the eucalyptus and

peppermint may hamper the effectiveness of whatever compounds he's given.

Camphor also wipes out homeopathic medicines.
