Guest guest
Good Morning! Coping with Sweet Cravings Sweet cravings have many causes, but here are some suggestions: *What, when and how much you eat play an important role in regulating how well your body manages blood sugar levels. *Keep to a low fat diet and eat three meals a day. *Avoid simple sugars, which may increase your appetite. If you are hungry in-between meals, then have a small healthy snack. *Increasing the fiber content of the diet may satisfy your hunger more and lessen the calories you consume. Soluble fiber, such as psyllium husk, is great in achieving this, as well as keeping the colon healthy. *Eat three meals each day. This is important for blood sugar regulation. Lessen your carb intake for each meal. By dinner you should have a very small portion of carbs (cup of rice or potatoes) or none at all (just your meat-chicken, fish, turkey, beef and a large portion of vegetables). *If you are thirsty drink water. *If you are overweight, eat smaller portions. *Reduce your intake of fat. *Keep sweet and fatty foods to a minimum. EXERCISE Stay active: Regular exercise helps your body lower blood sugars, promotes weight loss, reduces stress and enhances overall fitness. SLEEP Get enough rest. Our system regulates itself during sleep and there is a new study out that suggests the 7-8 hours of sleep can also help in weight loss. Sweet cravings can cycle about every 10 days, this is why it is important to do the above suggestions for two full weeks. This breaks this cycle. Eating is a learned responds. We can unlearn these cravings by breaking the cycle. Andrew Pacholyk, MS, L.Ac.
