Cupping

Cupping is a method of treatment that involves heating the air inside a cup and placing the inverted cup on some part of the body. A vacuum is created, which anchors the cup to the skin and pulls the skin upward. "Wet" cupping involves puncturing the skin before applying the cup. It is believed that this allows "poisons" and "toxins" to be sucked out of the body. In some cases, the cup may be moved while the suction of skin is active, causing a regional pulling of the skin and muscle (the technique is called gliding cupping). According to Subhuti Dharmananda, Ph.D., director of the Institute for Traditional Medicine in Portland, Oregon, "cupping is applied by acupuncturists to certain acupuncture points, as well as to regions of the body that are affected by pain (where the pain is deeper than the tissues to be pulled). Advocates claim that cupping causes tissues to release toxins; activates the lymphatic system; clears colon blockages; helps activate and clear the veins, arteries and capillaries; activates the skin; clears stretch marks; and improves varicose veins.the cups may be made of such things as wood (such as bamboo), plastic, glass, or metal.

The word “cupping” was derived from the Arabic verbs “hajama” and “haj’jama” which they meant “to minimize” or “to restore to basic size”, or “to diminish in volume”. In Arabic they say, “a certain person diminished the problem”, they meant that he returned the problem to its original size. There is also a verb “ahjama” which meant “to withdraw or retreat from attack”. Thus he who performed the cupping operation made diseases refrain from attacking him. The increase of spoiled blood in the body rendered its cessation from growing when the person became twenty-two years old, and it accumulated in the back area of the person. With advance in age, these accumulations of spoiled blood hindered the circulation of the whole blood, and eventually paralysed the work of the young red cor- puscles and the body became weak and exposed to various kinds of diseases. When one performed cupping, the blood returned to its original condition and the stagnant blood went away (that blood which contained maximum rate of senile red corpuscles and their cells ghosts and abnormal shapes from other impurities). The pressure on the body was lessened and the pure blood formed from young red corpuscles rushed to feed the cells and the body organs and released them from harmful residues, damages and secretions. The Arab Messenger (Communication with Al’lah and Peace are through him) said, “Cupping is the most helpful act for human beings to cure themselves with.”

 

 

Although not widely used as an alternative method of treatment for cancer, some practitioners may use it to rebalance energy in the body that has been blocked by certain tumors. --American Cancer Society

You get dry cupping and wet cupping. and the ancient trusted and effective way using fire and small glass bottles- the typical arab way - is most effective, although nowadays you get a " modern version" with suctions etc - personally, i think wet cupping - where the skin is punctured beforehand is most effective.if thats not possible to treat clients with traditional dry cupping.If you are considering it, please make sure you go to someone experienced and learned - i dont know about chinese tradition, but Arabs who are genuine in the art will very seldom give you a price for cupping - there is no actual charge, you can give whatever you want as a gift - for appreciation not payment -
