Guest guest
Michelle, Have you ever heard of itchy eyes as a menopause symptom? It is the skin around the eyes and the eyelids. Asking at the request of an acquaintance who suffers from this off and on. She is otherwise in great health, eats an organic vegan diet and does supplement with B12. My guess was either allergies or lack of certain essential fatty acids, but that is pure guess! Ien in the Kootenays*******************************Stop. Breathe. Guest guest
I am not Michelle, but I can tell you that I had that itchy eye thing and found it to be allergies, especially some white flours found in bread. Today I read that allergies are often related to candida, the yeast infection. The yeast feeds on sugar and the conventional wisdom says to avoid sugar, dairy and white flour, while adding blue green algae, garlic, ginger, vegetables containing little sugar and ??? That's all I know! Bright , " Ieneke van Houten " <ienvan@t...> wrote: > > Michelle, > > Have you ever heard of itchy eyes as a > menopause symptom? Thanks Bright! We were toying with the idea of allergies too. It was our first guess. This woman has been a vegan health foodist for years. Organic everything. I doubt any white flour has crossed her lips lately but you never know, I will pass it on. My next guess, and that is all they are, guesses, would be a lack of certain essential fatty acids or something that is found only in animal foods. . She does take a B vit which includes B12. I don't trust a totally vegan diet in the long term. Vegetarian with a few eggs now and then and some organic fermented dairy, yes. Guest guest
Hi Ien, Itchy, dry eyes makes sense at peri/meno. Everything becomes dryer as estrogen levels (and collagen production) drop. Skin, bones, hair, eyes, mouth and vagina. Also, allergies do tend to increase. Ester C helps restore the production of collagen. Extra EFA's are always a good idea for sure and lots of pure water of course. She can use aloe vera topically. A facial sauna with calendula and/or comfrey can help too. Drink teas of camomile, dandelion or peppermint to help with dry eyes and dry skin. Hope this helps her. I have this one too partly due to the dry Arizona climate, but it's always worst if I forget to drink LOTS of water every day. All the best, Michelle Ien wrote: Have you ever heard of itchy eyes as a menopause symptom?
Guest guest
Hey Ien, The below is pasted from Andrew's post from Susan Weed re: dry eyes. Michelle Herbs such as oatstraw, chamomile, and chickweed can help relieve and prevent this problem. ² Oatstraw infusion (Avena sativa) cools and moistens your eyes from the inside out, builds strong bones too. Use one ounce of dried herb in a quart jar; fill to the top with boiling water and cap tightly. Let steep four or more hours. Dose is 2-4 cups a day. Refrigerate after straining. ² Cucumber slices ease dry eyes; so do chamomile tea bags. ² The ultimate ally for women with dry eyes is fresh chickweed (Stellaria media), applied as a poultice to the closed eyes. Leave on for five minutes, or until the plant material feels warm (it will heat up). Repeat as needed.
