Guest guest
my doctor say's for good source of calcium just buy TUMS I did some research on the internet later and I keep turning up how very important vitamin D and magnesium is to calcium absorption so, it doesn't make alot of sense to me to take magnesium (which requires acid to be absorbed) to help calcium absorption (which also requires acid) if the form of calcium you are taking (TUMS) neutralizes acid.... then how much absorption are you actually going to get on either one?? Guest guest
Peggy, This comes up but really, if you talk TUMS or something similar continually you risk messing up your digestion. Stomach acid is a trigger for other actions in the digestive process besides just in the stomach. Here and there it would be alright, but I think another source of calcium would be better for regular use. Same for that little purple pill. Okay to correct an occasional problem but I don't think you are suppose to live on the stuff. Try a soluble source (not carbonate or oxide) or a whole-food source. Also, there is some literature at the Natural Calm site showing that sometimes one gets enough calcium but lacks magnesium or the other nutrients you mentioned. The calcium you take in can't be utilized by the body. So you really need these other nutrients and not just put more calcium in. Hope this helps. Karen. Guest guest
It's sad to think how ill informed most doctors and dentists are. Even the best are in the dark on many issues due to the bias of their sources of information and also the lack of continuing education. This provides cutting edge information on so many valuable health issues. Perhaps you could cut and paste some to share with doctors you know. I shared a number of articles on problems with fluoride with a scientist I know who is involved with the city water supply. I cut and pasted them into Microsoft Word and then copied them onto a diskette. I shared a diskette of articles on vaccines, baby formula, and other health issues with a pediatrician I know. Even those who specialize in these topics do not learn what we are learning in this group. Thanks to all who donate articles.

The best thing you can do for your health is run as fast as you can from anybody who has a diploma saying they are a medical doctor of any sort. The best sources of calcium and other minerals are foods that have been grown or raised with a sensibility to nature and it proper processes. The calcium carbonate used in tums and other antacids causes detriment to the body due to its artificial nature and the difficulty to detoxify it. regards, Bruce : -)
Guest guest
Your doctor is an idiot. When you do take calcium supplements, make sure that you DON'T buy calcium carbonate. It's the form of calcium that is hardest for the body to use and it can preciprate out as kidney stones or cause other problems. I have several friends that developed kidneys stones and, in each case, they were taking calcium carbonate! I'm sure that there are websites that will alert you to the problems calcium carbonate can cause but I didn't know until, several years ago, I read about it on one of these . I immediately threw away my calcium carbonate products and now won't even buy the orange juice that's fortified with calcium because most use calcium carbonate just because it's the cheapest form of calcium out there. And, yes, I do take magnesium and Vitamin D. I flunked my bone density test years ago and take supplements plus lift weights to keep my bone mass healthy. I'd never take Tums for that purpose! - Anna , " activemom22000 " <peggysue6@c...> wrote: > my doctor say's for good source of calcium just buy TUMS > I did some research on the internet later and I keep turning up how > very > important vitamin D and magnesium is to calcium absorption so, it > doesn't > make alot of sense to me to take magnesium (which requires acid to be > absorbed) to help calcium absorption (which also requires acid) if > the form > of calcium you are taking (TUMS) neutralizes acid.... then how much > absorption are you actually going to get on either one?? > > Peggy
