Guest guest
Another thing you can do to control mosquitoes is to erect bluebird houses, purple martin houses, and bat houses. This plate/water/detergent sounds like a pretty good idea, but I would be afraid that beneficial honey bees would also be attracted to it and drown. Guest guest
I am relatively new to your group and live in the Arizona area. Thank you for having me in your group. We just had West Nile kill someone recently. I have read some reports that the mosquitoes are attracted to your breath, and will travel up to miles to bite someone. Anyone heard of this or know about any studies? I have tried Lavender 5 drops to 1 teaspoon base oil. Vegetable oil is fine. for larger dosages I use 30 drops EO (Essential Oil) to 2 Tablespoon. This will last me quite awhile here. Combinations of Lavender and Red Thyme Essential oils seem to work best. For insect repellent I have used the following: Lemongrass 8 drops, peppermint 4 drops, and thyme 4 drops, lavender 4 drops EO diluted with a base oil. as an insect repellent. Using strips of paper or ribbons hung from the porch with one drop of EO is great deterrent. Remember to protect yourself other ways by wearing socks and long sleeves in you are susceptible to bites. Now that we have West Nile virus to worry about, we need to be a bit more mosquito-conscious! Please do not panic about West Nile. Just take measures to keep your immune system in decent shape. Go easy on the ice cream, pop, and beer. Keep your body in decent shape by good food and moderate exercise. Use quality supplements, ideally whole food based. A friend sent me this: <This was given at a gardening forum. Put some water on a white dinner plane and add a couple drops of LEMON FRESH JOY dish detergent. Set the dish on your porch, patio or other outdoor area. Not sure what attracts the mosquito but they flock to the plate and drop dead shortly after drinking the solution. It seems that only a white plate attracts them! I haven't tried it yet but a friend sent it to me and she said it works super! Worth a try if you have many mosquitos' and spend much time outside. > ********************************************* WWW.PEACEFULMIND.COM Sponsors Alternative Answers-HEALING NATURALLY- this is the premise of HOLISTIC HEALTH. They flock to the plate to lay their eggs after they have gotten a sufficient amount of blood form an animal or human being. Being that the West Nile virus has increased especially where I live in Illinois, things containing DEET are the only repellants that work. I live 1/4 mile from the Kankakee River and the mosquitos are bad all day long now. It just isn't a morning or dusk thing, it is all day long. Sometimes even the DEET won't repell them. The only option we have left here is to stay inside. Blessings,Natalie
