hello all,

i would like to ask you advice about my dogs skin problem. i like

to go the natural way, the vets are not telling me much, but to keep

coming back and no improvements, you know what i mean. the dog is

one and a half years old, sheppard/collie mix. she has a horrible

skins problem and it is getting worse. i'm trying to give her the

right foods, fed her wellness most of the time, but now we went for

science diet. give her little meat now with garlic, otherwise she

will spit it right out. total pet nutrition, food enzymes, pet

controle, anti pest herbs in dmso, msm..... spray tea tree oil on

her 2-3 times per day/mixed with water, 50%-50% sort of. it started

with a grazy hotspot on her throught and scratched it open, totally,

and just in a day!!! went to the vet and on antibiotics...... got a

bit better, but got worse after one week end started to get spots

all over her body, also on her vagina and anus now. it is almost

like a weed growing that fast! first she scratches on a little spot

and then untill it bleeds. when it seems to heal up it starts to

develop into little blisters, with pus and blood. the vet told me

she had a lot of pests on her, he told me he saw under the

microscope....... and got her on drugs again......... i'm getting

sick writing this! anyhoo, i'm looking on the net for information

and seek advice, maybe a group to discuss these things, maybe you

know lists/groups/forums. ok, i'm writing a book, hope you can give

me a hint or two. ps: she seems in ok spirit, loves to run in the

park with me and eats ok. i wish i knew what to use on her skin to

relieve the itch and mostly to get rid of the bad skin condition.

give her 2 baths per week now........ thanks, rik

Hi Rik,

Our dog had a similar incident. The vet called it elephant skin and it was

disgusting. From his privates all the way to his front legs. Then it started

on his mouth. After some trial and error we finally got it healed up and the

hair grew back but now it's coming back around his mouth again. He will scratch

it until it bleeds. You can email me off list if you want and we can go over

all the things that we used on him.

Thanks

Teresa

Rik,

I'm very sorry about your dog. She has gone to the rainbow bridge...where animals wait for their owners to come and join them.

Rik,

Really sorry to hear she didnt make it. I know that losing a pet can

be really hard for some people (it was for me). I'm sure she has

gone on to the " big dog park in the sky " .

Rik,

I am sorry for your loss. I am a graduate of veterinarian medicine and it sounds like your dog has what is called mange. It is a parasite that the body can not get rid of with the body's immune system and is usually not treated well with medicines either. I wish the vet could of been more honest with you.

Sorry again.

Blessings,Natalie
