But I am responding because about two months ago I started taking BOTH herbs in liquid form in response to the beginning of hot flashes. (I turned 46 in December and am still menstruating.) The flashes began in November and although brief, they would happen several times a day. After taking my first dose in January (1 dropper of each herb with a little water) the flashes disappeared IMMEDIATELY and have not returned!! The first few days I took about 2 doses a day, and only because I kind of felt the flashes 'trying' to start. But now I take only 1 a day, skipping a day here and there. I am told that taking the Black Cohosh at the onset of flashes may be what is preventing them. Also, it seemed as though my periods -- normally brief but heavy -- were about to stop, but this month they have resumed as before. (I believe Dong Quai is believed to aid menstral flow.) Again, look to others more educated for concrete advice, but my experience was so dramatic I had to respond to your question! We are not doctors, at least most of us are not. With herbs you have much more leeway, more room to just play and experiment. At least, with relatively safe herbs like Don Quai and Black Cohosh. Remember that the poison that killed Socrates was 100% organic and free of preservatives:). Reactions are very individual. Just experiment! Start slow, and see how you feel. Observe yourself. Note what you are doing, and what else you are doing on days when you feel really good, or the reverse. Keep changing the amount until you experience what you are looking for. We look forward to hearing from you!
