Guest guest
Dan-- As I mention in my new book " Free Your Breath, Free Your Life " coming out from Shambhala in May, medical researchers in Italy found that regular humming can help open up the sinuses and also reduce upper respiratory infections. An explanation for how this works is either on my website or in my free newsletter through .groups (Authentic Breathing News). The key is to let your inhalation take place by itself through your nose (don't force it), and then simply hum during the exhalation with mouth closed. When you have about 20 percent of your air left, stop the humming, finish the exhalation through your nose (no force), and let the inhalation arise again by itself. You can use your intention to try gently to focus the humming in the area(s) you experience the biggest problem. Work like this for five minutes at a time, several times a day. May also keep the problem from recurring. Humming is also a wonderful exercise for strengthening your diaphragm, as for a variety of other things, as I explain in my book.
