Savoring Life: Kate Costin’s Success Story

It’s easy, sometimes, to overlook the joys of daily life. We often get so caught up in our modern, fast-paced existence that we forget to appreciate everyday pleasures.

For Kate Costin, of Victoria, British Columbia, the simple pleasures so many of us take for granted are an entirely new experience.

“It’s like heaven: tonight for dinner I am eating a big salad,” shares Kate. “I'm eating barbecued chicken and drinking lemonade. We're also having corn on the cob --which I think should be dessert. Later tonight I intend to get into my hot tub and watch the August meteor showers in the night sky.”

Before Nikken*, Kate would not even have been able to prepare any of those foods, let alone eat them. “I would have had to wear silicone gloves. I had skin that was very sensitive to what was in the environment.”

Kate’s environmental sensitivity wasn’t isolated to her skin however. She also suffered from respiratory problems and an inability to change temperature quickly.

“I had to take and then time my drugs in order to have a shower or bath because of the chlorine. Life was pretty restricted and I thought it was as good as it would ever be.”

Surprisingly, Kate did not initially turn to Nikken for her physical condition. “I was looking for a business that I -- as a single, home-schooling mother of three -- could do from my home. I was terribly, painfully shy, because my appearance was so off-putting. I looked like I'd been in a fire because my skin was painful and often bleeding.”
