Guest guest
Hi I was a vegetarian for many years. I purified my body of many toxins that way. I was vegan also. But at some point my body told me I needed to eat meat, and so I did. I was in a discussion on this very topic with a buddhist class led by H.H. Buddha Maitreya Rinpoche. He explained that in Buddhism there is a belief in reincarnation. By animals sacrificing their lives for our health, they will go on to a better life next time. He also added that vegetables are also living, and feel too. As I understand it, many indigenous people kill only what they need, as quickly as possible, and make the animal's offering of its life, a blessed event, by offering thanks. This is called reverence. We could say reverence for all of our food. It actually changes the nature of the food we ingest, it helps us to remember that food is sacred, and so is all life. It is best to eat organic food, free of additives, hormone treatments, artificial whatevers, pesticides. There are sites on the internet that specialize in this. Also there are co-ops, and health food stores that carry same. Many people that think they have food allergies are not actually allergic to the actual food, but the junk that is put in it. As far as dairy allergies, many times it is due to a childhood ingestion of dairy too early in life. Cow milk is different than human mother's milk, in content. I also agree that animals should never be treated inhumanely. Nothing on this planet should. There are cage-free or free-range products in health food stores, also co-ops and farmer markets may have these offered. Again, giving reverence is a key to blessing and healing this sacred offering. What an honor to give one's life so that another might live! Maybe the best idea is to do whatever our body suggests. It knows how to heal. It may need a detox diet at the moment. But at some point it may need other food. The body can automatically take care of its self if our brains do not interfere. We can provide it all of the nutrition it needs, and feel good about it too. Be well.
