Guest guest
Went to the Gandhi Jayanti Mela yesterday - excellent fair. The highlight of yesterday was songs by Daler Mehendi. Daler Mehendi was excellent - he has a new fan - me and the reasons are more than just Songs which I had heard and are good. The reasons are for the kind of work he has done. He is: A Sikh, born and raised in Patna, he began singing at age 6 and was taught the ragas and Shabads from the Guru Granth Sahib by his parents. At age fourteen he spent three years refining his voice and learning the tabla, dholak/dhool, harmonium and tanpura from Late Ustad Raahat Ali Khan Saheb of Gorakhpur. Mehndi then moved to San Francisco, United States and worked as a cab driver before returning to India and forming a band. Mehndi is well known for, funding beautification projects (Planted more than 1 lakh trees for greener delhi by donating more than Rs 86 lakhs) in Delhi and aiding earthquake victims of Gujrat (Made around 16 houses for earth quake victims - donated around Rs 12 lakh). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daler_Mehndi , Lokesh Bhog <lokeshbhog wrote:>> Thank you Preety.> Gandhi Ji made real difference to India by teaching Swaraj and non-violence.> His books are available at following event:> > Gandhi Jayanti Mela - 2nd october 2009 to 4th October 2009> *> *> *Place : Hall No. 2 to 5, Pragati Bhawan, Pragati Maidan, New Delhi-110001> Entry from Gate No. 2> Nearest Delhi Metro Rail Station : Walking Distance from Pragati Maidan> Metro Station> > Time : 10:00 am - 8:00 pm> > Entry : Free> *> > http://www.delhievents.com/2009/09/gandhi-jayanti-mela-at-pragati-maidan.html> > *Highlights : *> 2nd October :> Inauguration at 10:30 am> Bhajans by Shubha Mudgal at 6:00 pm> Magic Show | Puppet Show | Film Show | Cultural Programmes> 3rd October :> Musical Evening with Daler Mehendi at 6:00 pm> Cultural Programmes> 4th October :> Concluding Ceremony - 5 pm> Kathak Dance by Uma Sharma> > > *Other Attractions : *> *Heavy Discount on Khadi clothes, handicrafts and books etc.*> *Free health check-up by Fortis / Escorts / Metro Teams.*> Non-stop Charkha Yagna.> Enthralling cultural and folk programmes.> Stalls of various departments of Municipla Corporation of Delhi, Delhi> Govt., Govt. of India and Gandhian organizations.> Delicious and famous food items.> > *> *>
