These days people are councious of health and want to avoid sugar. Hence some of the companies have come out with sugar free sweetner - However close look at the packing has following chemicals mentioned - Aspartame, lactose, colloidal Silicon Dioxide. The packing also mentions - not recommended for children - I wonder why :) . I also wonder why if a product is not safe for children, it can be safe for adults - where adults not children at some point of time. The only change is that as adults may be we have more resistance to poison as compared to children - so its effects are not visible immediately.

Wikipedia information mentions:

This sweetener is marketed under a number of trademark names, including Equal, NutraSweet, and Canderel, and is an ingredient of approximately 6,000 consumer foods and beverages sold worldwide. It is commonly used in diet soft drinks, and is provided as a table condiment in some countries. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aspartame

Following link mentions side effects of consuming Aspartame http://www.sweetpoison.com/aspartame-side-effects.html .

There has been major issues with use of Aspartame and it is linked to diseases such as cancer.

Summary - if you want to taste sweet - sick to natural sweet taste in fruits - Avoid any packed drink that says diet (As it would be containing artifical sweetner). And also do not put these artifical sweetners in your tea/coffee.
