Guest guest
Eating almonds daily as part of a healthy lifestyle lowers bad cholesterol levels and helps reduce risk of heart disease, says Dr HK Chopra The facts that almonds contain no cholesterol and are a rich source of folic acid, natural vitamin E, and minerals gives them tremendous cholesterol lowering effect and antioxidant properties. One ounce (30 grams) of almond per day gives 170 calories and the total fat content is 14 grams, out of which monounsaturated fat in 9 grams, polyunsaturated fat is 4 grams and saturated fat is 1 gram and cholesterol is O. Almonds contains 6 gram of proteins and 5 grams of carbohydrate with dietary fibre 4 grams and sugar 1 gram. Almonds also supply you with monounsaturated fat, decrease bad cholesterol and increase good cholesterol thereby decreasing the risk of heart disease. Eating a handful of almonds a day as part of a healthy lifestyle may lower "bad" cholesterol levels and help reduce risk of heart disease Almonds are high in protein. One ounce contains 12% of our daily protein needs. Because almonds are a plant food, they contain no cholesterol Almonds contain generous amounts of Vitamin E, considered a powerful antioxidant with cancerfighting qualities. Almonds are abundant in phosphorous, which is good for bones and teeth. They also contain potassium, iron, zinc, copper, manganese, and trace amounts of the B vitamins thiamin and riboflavin. Almonds are higher in calcium than all other nuts. One ounce of almonds, approximately 20 - 25, has as much calcium as ¼ cup (59 ml) of milk. Almonds are also higher in fibre than any other nut. One ounce of blanched almonds contains 1.5 g fibre. Unblanched almonds are nearly double the fibre as blanched. If you pregnant, almonds can be a nutritious way of preventing certain birth defect because of their high folic acid content. Although almonds, like all nuts, are high in fat, they are very low in saturated fat. Most of the fat in almonds monounsaturated are considered beneficial fat.
