My daughter's donated bed frame she just had to have smells like dogs.....and I dont like my home to smell like anything but scents I choose for the day depending on what mood I'm in. But this is NOT airing out as I had hoped. It's for pets, but I can't see why it wouldn't work for people pee. It contains : " Water, Nature's Enzymes, Isopropyl Alcohol, Natural Citrus Scent " . It works wonders for pet mistakes. Having said that, it sounds like this has been going on a long time, and if the uring has soaked all the way under the carpet and into the flooring underneath, they may have to completely rip out the carpet, Hopefully, the subfloor is not a lost cause, but I know people who had to replace the subfloor too after the previous occupants who had three undisciplined pomeranians. It was originally thought up to break down skunk spray odors. I've used it for kids potty accidents, too. 15 oz. hydrogen peroxide 1 tsp. baking soda few drops of liquid soda Mix together and apply. I find it works best in a peri or squirt bottle (you know the kind the hospitals give to post-partum Moms?)-- it's very easy to apply and spread around using one of these. You do need to mix it fresh each time you use. It's not good stored in a closed bottle for a prolonged period because the gases from the h2o2 build up and can make a container explode. HTH! Guest guest Posted April 16, 2010 Report Share Posted April 16, 2010 Penny, Try a small box of baking soda in the closet. Believe me, in that it will absorb lots of unsavory odors in the bathroom. Just have to change it periodically. Also, baking soda could be put on the carpeting itself and allowed to sit for a week or so and then vacuumed up. Then like the box, spread some more baking soda on the carpet again. BTW, while this might not be popular on this group. I have found that scents of any kind, only mask the smell for awhile. The baking soda will absorb them. The good thing about the boxed baking soda. It can be poured down the sink drain and continue to de-scent the room. Guest guest Posted April 16, 2010 Report Share Posted April 16, 2010 I have an elder dog with kidney/bladder issues as well as a 3yo son that refuses to potty train and have been struggling with urine & fecal smells throughout my home. I keep a spray bottle on hand that is 1/2 distilled white vinegar, 1/2 distilled water and several drops of essential oils (prefer lavendar and tea tree since both are also antibacterial). I mop up the offending puddle, spray the area generously with my custom blend and lay a towel over it until it dries. So far, the only one to re-wet the same spot has been my 3 year old and that's simply due to stubborness. vinegar neutralizes the urine. But if you have urine soaked into the carpet and there is residual odor, there is an extended process that I have found to work very well. 1. Reconstitute it with a weak enzymes/water solution pull out as much moisture as you can by wicking with dry toweling. 2. Sprinkle a mixture of silica powder, baking soda, and borax onto the affected area. Let that dry completely (it may take a couple of days and a fan) 3. Vacuum it up with a fine filter vacuum. I use a shop vac with the drywall dust filters. (Please be careful when working with airborne silica as it can cause silicosis.) I suggest a filtration mask while vacuuming as well. It was developed by the University of Virginia and has been around since in the mid 1990's. It was released to veterinary offices via each states veterinary associations newsletter. Can't exactly remember when but I know it was in the 1990's. They tested it by using road killed skunks in varying degress of decomposition and discovered it worked every time and they did plenty of testing!) And all the other suggestions are wonderful too. And we'll be passing them all along to our client. She will be most greatful. Guest guest Posted April 18, 2010 Report Share Posted April 18, 2010 Hi, The one with quinine in it is Tonic Water--many of my elderly patients used it during my nursing days for nighttime leg cramps and said it did an awesome job for them. I don't know that it'll add anything to the urine stain/smell removal though. It comes in a powder form, and needs to be used within 4 hours of suspending in water, but it is the best one I've found for digesting urine and other such odors. It may take a couple of applications, but it really works - even on old stains.
