I am wondering if anyone has any formulas for this- 45 yr old female, on

disability now with MS- has bad ache/pain, restless leg sensation at night

keeping her awake. She found some oils online but I was not familiar with the

company...... so I am looking to help her find something that has worked for

others.

any suggestions? I can forward all suggestions to her, esp. if you have a

product already.

Thanks

I have a friend that was labeled MS, but she has NO symptoms when she keeps up

on her vits, especially B12. Has she had bloodwork done for nutrient

deficiencies? Magnesium is another that is supposed to be helpful for muscle

cramping. I was recently looking for info on fibromyalgia and came across a few

things in regards to vitamin/nutrient deficiencies that feed the symptoms. I'll

try to look for that info again when I get home.

Hi Sylla,

We have used the following recipe for many folks that have - Restless legs.

One nursing home uses it for their restless leg dementia patients.

Restless legs massage blend

Vetiver 15 drops

Roman Chamomile 20 drops

Lavender 25 drops

4 oz of massage carrier oil or lotion.

Blend well then massage legs using upward strokes (towards the heart).

This makes plenty of massage oil/lotion.

The other thing we have found (and I agree with Jessica) is that often times

there are mineral and possible vitamin deficiencies when someone is experiencing

leg and other muscle cramping/pain.

Magnesium being number one. Folks forget that Magnesium and Calcium work

together to help the muscles. Often times they only think about Calcium being

needed for the bones etc but these two minerals along with Potassium are so

important and it is quite common for folks to be deficient in Magnesium and

potassium and/or not be in balance with the amount of calcium they are

consuming.

Please read a book by Mildred S Seelig MD " The Magnesium Factor " . It is based

on several decades of research and explains how important to get enough

Magnesium in the correct proportions needed with the other minerals.

I have seen personally someone with major leg cramping benefit from a little

potassium salt in water for ACUTE cramping. And a balance of Potassium and

Magnesium supplementation used to prevent chronic cramping.

Hope this helps give the gal a little relief. We know it has worked for several

other folks, but have no documentation on someone with MS.

My response: I was diagnosed with Fibro in 2002. Suffered horribly for 3

years--pretty much bedridden. Then, I went on a raw vegan diet to lose

weight and found that I also lost the pain. I don't think it was the

rawfoods or the vegan, necessarily, that did it but rather a diet much

higher in nutrients and fiber. Also, a chiropractor started me on a product

called " Calm " which is pure magnesium powder. He recommended it because my

muscles (hands and feet mostly) would cramp and lock. He said the " locking "

was a magnesium deficiency. Now, in nutrition school I " learned " that

" people don't get deficient in magnesium " . :P is what I say to that because

the magnesium did/does wonders for me. The one lingering problem that I have

is with my feet--pain and cramping if I go too long without the magnesium.

Now, I've done nutritional analysis of my diet and it isn't deficient in

magnesium. Clearly, though, my body has problems in it's metabolism or

utilization of magnesium so I need more. Oh, and I suggest taking the Calm

about 30 minutes before bedtime. It has the most wonderful relaxing effect

and will give you wonderful sleep. Good quality sleep is something that

patients with fibromyalgia and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome lack so having

something help in that department is a definite plus.

PS: Potassium deficiency can also lead to muscle cramping.

Perhaps it would be a good idea to add a B complex to her diet to get all her

Bs as B6 deficiency is associated with leg cramps.

I tried magnesium. I tried hot bath before bed. I tried quinine. B

complex. Massage before bed. Nothing worked. I got a recliner chair. No

more leg cramps at night.

I would, before the chair, have night time ankle-twisting cramps. Cramps

in my toes and ball of my foot. Cramps in my quads, the largest muscles

in the body, so you can imagine the pain. Calf cramps. You name it, I

suffered every night.

The first night after getting the recliner, no cramps. In the three

years since, maybe a dozen smaller cramps after I had a day of walking a

lot on concrete.

Elevating the legs regularly throughout the day is necessary. I always

sat at my office chair or other straight chairs, and didn't realize that

the blood flow back was being compromised.

All my best,

I read in several places that dehydration can cause leg cramps. Try drinking

more water.
