UAE Easter plans?

January wasn't a great month for me to accomplish additional things. i have

one full-sheet valentine that a neighbor child made at my open house, but

it's still sitting on my desk rather than en route to UAE to join their

package.

 

So now I'm trying to get a jump start....

 

1) are we doing something easter/spring for the troops

2) if so, when does it need to leave UAE?

3) what do we want it to consist of? I had a mom asking if their girl scout

troop could collect basic supplies (toothbrush, packs of gum, you know, that

usual list of care package items that floats about).

4) will there be an official UAE press release regarding it? i get really

sketchy about writing up press releases for things that are not intimately

mine---feel like i'm going to accidentally misrepresent or something (and it

was reinforced when I was trying to get the word out about a Kangaroo Care

presentation I was trying to get scheduled at the office--didn't know she

was an IBCLC and had just stated she was a doula...)

 

 

and then thinking ahead (especially since press and shipping require lead

times)....what are the other 'holidays' we want to be aiming to have a

designated 'pressable' care package going out?? Memorial Day? Independence

Day? Veteran's Day? those are the most applicable i can think of in a

generalized sense.

I have the valentines sorted. Sara Holmes (UAE Sec) sent 30 from local 2nd

grade (7 yr olds) and they are awesome large cards, complete with artwork on the

front (flags, hearts, eagles (?) and assorted cute drawings and inside

handwritten letters to soldiers, with things like: " you are the bravest one I

know " , my hero " , " thank you for giving me my freedom " , " I hope you come home

safe and sound " and the cutest: " I hope you dont break a bone. We are studying

bones. "

 

the perfumes I have gotten, include goodie bags from Jennscents, mini perfumes

from Mandy Aftel, hundreds of samples of Sarah Horowitz wonderful perfumes and

others are still on the way or going direct like Marcia/Samara Botanes Ammarreto

perfume (I thought I heard rumor of?). This has turned out to be quite fun,

seeing what is gathered, imagining their delight!! also Dalai Lama book and nice

relaxing music CDs- I think they will be quite pleased with their Valentine

shipment- and when they get that they get their 25 # of peppemint candy

(donation from Albertsons) GZ got!

OK right now I am still sorting out Haiti: the ERMI team is gearing up,

working on the returning Green Cross in Miami first, then deployments pending

later into the country or other sites for rescue workers returning. I have to

round up my local team and arrange training here shortly for those going in. So

I have not got past Feb yet in my head, but feel free to take it and run, if you

think we could do holiday themes.....do you think cards (with donations of

financial nature) are cool? I need creative people to step up to the plate and

take on something like this, ideas or facilitation!!

anything going to our established Soldiers in Afghanistan takes about a week

to 10 days to reach Camp Phoenix, the others take slightly longer. So UAE would

need goods in Shreveport one to two weeks before deadline to catalog/sort and

pack or it could go direct.

that would be fine, however they get a lot of that already and are not lacking

for the basics or junk food (Jim says), and there are fine organizations doing

that already including my own local Lutz Patriots and TreatsforTroops. I would

like to keep our focus in the aromatherapy, natural wellness realm- things they

may not get at home!!, or may not have been exposed to. It may be that UAE/ERMI

has done more for spreading the word about aromatherapy than some multi level

companies via first responders.....so cards with $1 donation is doable and we

definitely need the $ for shipping costs

 

That being said, we will not turn down anything because now we are looking at

teams going into Haiti and the teams may need these things or we can take to

Haiti or for others that come behind us....or the next event after Haiti.....you

know the " road goes on forever and the party never ends " (Robert Earle Keen)

The site is being kept up pretty well now, and I update the homepage with any

releases, as well as naha and others send out regular press releases, I usually

put them on here too, so yes any new program will be announced. But if you want

to start a new one- say the Holiday Program, dealing with cards that would be

great and we could PR every holiday....

lets do Independence/Veterans/Winter/Valentines....and keep it simpler, how is

ps finishing up work early today because tomorrow I get to see my JIM, he is

home from Afghanistan for his r/r till Feb 9, so I'm driving across to Cocoa to

hug his neck and party down with the family! YIPPEEE.
