Guest guest
Howdy Rhavda, > Dear Butch, > Hi there! Thank you for your hunting treatise. It was great! My pleasure fer'shur and glad you liked it. I was feeling ornery when I wrote it so I stretched it out .. it was intended to be both a (hopefully) informative post and a preemptive strike against anyone who might object to hunting if I made it shorter. ;-) Hunting, like Mom, Apple Pie, Baseball and the Flag are a part of the American heritage I hold near and dear. In the past I would have included Chevrolet in that list .. but I dropped it off for reasons folks can understand. Might have to add it back since the new Mass Senator will be driving into D.C. with his old Chevrolet pickumup. ;-) > My husband got to my emails before I did and told me to read what > you had written about hunting. I think that he " visits " my emails > at this time of the year just to see when you will write something > about your hunting. Thanks .. appreciated are the comments but he needs to pick up on winter fishing ... its a heckuva lot more interesting that reading (or writing) the stuff I send to the list. ;-) > He and I both agreed that you are correct about hunting. This past > November my husband got one deer and his hunting partner got > another. They were lucky because you are so right about the deer > and the turkeys smelling the hunters and vamoosing. Lots folks might not understand that cause both deer and turkey will play in your front yard .. even during hunting season. But out where we hunt .. they are as scarce as honest politicians. Once the deer and turkey are exposed to gunfire they know where to go to be safe .. stupid they are not. > The one think nice that happened was that we got some wonderful > pictures of the wild deer, turkeys, hogs, rackcoons (sliding down > the deer feeders), and hogs. I also like to hunt with my camera .. I keep a digital in my pocket all the time. Gotta lotta good photos of young deer close in when I am sitting motionless and the wind is right. > We butcher and package our deer ourselves. I butchered 3 of mine this year .. but during the last part of the season I was too busy hunting to do that so I had our Mennonite butcher shop do it .. they do a great job and make the best summer sausage around. > Like you, we we will be out of venison before next season starts. Some folks wonder how a family can eat 7 deer .. its easy. There is not all that much meat on a deer. Looking at one you would think there is more but they are unlike domestic animals that are bred to be high in fat and lean meat and low in bone mass. > Venison is great and one of the healthiest meats that you can eat. Agree .. and mighty tasty too. If I get one that is a tad mature we will often take a roast .. make a papaya paste (in a blender) and marinade it for 24 hours or so in the frig .. big time tenderizer. > I think that in our 30 plus years of marriage I have learned to > cook venison more than 50 ways and I am still getting new recipes. Good for you. Tanya had never cooked deer before she married me but she has a wild game cookbook and a Suthran food cookbook and does a great job. > This year will be start our garden as soon as the weather permits > in North Texas. Today we had nearly 70 degrees while this coming > week we are going back to winter weather. Good show. We planted onions and garlic in November .. and I am thinking of planting some lettuce and such under glass real soon. Weather here in West TN has been bouncing back between below zero to the mid 50s .. crazy it is. > It is good that you are teaching Alex the rules of hunting early. > It will stay with him always. No question about it. > Rupert taught our son and now it is coming into good stead with him > in the Marines. Odds are the Rules of Engagement he learned while hunting were far less restrictive than those imposed on him now. If Afghanistan our troops are fighting with one arm behind them now .. can't zap the bad guy unless you check off a laundry list of conditions first. > Enjoy your friends' 50th wedding aniversary and especially them > giving your beautiful wife the once over. lol. Thankee ma'am .. gonna be interesting fer'shur. ;-) > I'm also glad that you are still doing the rose eo. Thanks .. our next Rose Absolute bulk sale will be in February and I will put something out on it in a week or 10 days. Folks will have to go to Oils & Herbs or Natural Perfumery to see the details. > Keep up the hunting. Remember if you ever get this far South to > Texas, drop us an email and ya'll come by to stay for a few days. > We will treat you to Venison filet mignon Texas style. Sounds great and thanks for the kind invitation and it goes likewise here in Henry County. Paris is known as the location of the world's bigggest Fish Fry ... Google it .. catfish is larpin' gud. Like I said one time before .. I might show up on your doorstep some day .. and hoping I will be that you also have a few bottles of cold Lone Star. ;-) Good luck to that young Marine .. a hearty salute to him. Many folks wonder what they can do to help their fellow man .. those in uniform never have any doubt about what they can .. and are doing. > Rhavda Cooper Emison > Mother of a proud young Marine Y'all keep smiling. :-) Butch ... http://www.AV-AT.com
