Patchouli thoughts & sniffs

That is an amazing price on 16oz.  Since Patchouli ages extremely well and only

gets better, if it's the real deal, then it would be a steal!  Due to bad

weather years and greed, the price of patchouli has risen hundreds of precent in

the last 2-3 years.

 

Perhaps you can get John to send you a sample of it to sniff, test a bit, and

maybe have someone nearby you give it a sniff test too.  Even if you pay for a

tester, 16oz for a bit over $2 per oz is an unbelievable price.

 

Patchouli has never been one of my favs, but it is so necessary in so many

recipes.

 

Just goes to show, that there may be some deals out there yet!

 

Good luck with your quest.  I'm perhaps not the best to describe an oil,

especially one that I'm not crazy about, but I have two Patchoulis in front of

me.  One is several years old and it is smooth and guess you would say smoky

with a hint of a twang.  The other one is 2-3 years old and is fairly smooth,

but not as much as the older one, a bit smoky, and has a spicy green note.

Surprisingly, after opening this bottle, it has smoothed out a bit. The first is

in the original bottle and about 3/4ths an ounce, the other is most of a 2oz

bottle that I rebottled.  Neither of these bottles of Patchouli would be

considered sweet to me, but who knows, they might to someone else.  That is the

wonder of eo's, no two noses are exactly alike. <grin>

By the way, a few years ago, I bought a case of 12~1 oz bottles of Aussie

Sandalwood.  At the time it did not smell like any sandalwood I had sniffed,

but I used it in some formulas and gave a few away to special folks, stashed the

rest.  Now, it has evolved into this most lovely Sandalwood smell that I'm

almost jealous of the ones I gave away!  <grin>
