Happy New Year!

some of you remember I have put my still on the road a few years ago, and it has

traveled the US and had many experiences, but its up for new iteniary - have

sent word to find out where it is- mid usa I think, and it has been requested

back in Big Sur! If you have it and are ready to move it on or if you want to

host it for a while and try your hand at distillation let me know by email.

It is a simple set up, liter flask with clevenger trap, basic still. Its easy to

set up and you can play with whats available or use dried herbs to produce some

EO and some hydrolate!! here is a link to Fabs experience:

http://atlanticinstitute.com/Five_days_with_an_alambic.pdf

Please share with other lists, especially Anya's list as it was first offered

there but I am no longer on there so feel free to share with others who may want

to try it out.

it is a simple water distillation set up- flask with material sits in heater and

water boils, steam containing essential oil rises to condenser (long double

walled glass tube) which has ice water running thru to cool. The steam condenses

back into water and oil and falls into the trap which recycles the water back

into flask; once distillation is done, no more oil is coming over then you

release it with stopcock below and separate it out (with separatory apparatus).

If you look at the pdf on the bottom left you can see what Im talking about. It

comes with directions and all equipmenet you need, except the plant material!!

It does not take a lot to get a yeild. Lemongrass and eucalyptus give some oil,

forget geranium or melissa!! one year I did my neighbors Christmas tree....good

time to get some of that!

Hi Miss Sylla,

Amazing, It is a neat tool!

Could you please tell me where you bought it ??

Very interesting that you do not need a lot of plants.Hydrosols are very

important and I use them for me and my dog as well.

Thanks

hello Lavinia

I believe Rob Pappas helped me get it way back after the Purdue classes- it is

what we used in the lab there. I purchased other condenser tubes and finally

settled on the Stove Still which is adapted from a pressure cooker - holds more

plant material, offers steam or water distillation (uses a 'cold finger "

condenser which is more efficient).

I decided no point in all this stuff sitting in my attic, so its been on the

road since 2007.
