I think if the latin word matches up, that is what is important. White Thyme is NOT the same thing as Red. Can't remember off hand why not but it is the RED thyme that has the more potent healing qualities I was looking for. From Valerie Ann Worwood's book "The Complete Book of Essential Oils and Aromatherapy" regarding Thyme oil: "There are many types of thyme, some of which can be used safely in all situations and some which cannot. Thyme has notable antiviral, antibiotic, antiseptic and diuretic properties and should be used with great care. Overuse of it can stimulate the thyroid gland and lymphatic system. Like many good things, it must be used in moderation. It should never be applied to the skin undiluted and should not be used on children unless it within the chemotype Thyme linalol." (note: explained further below). "Thyme linalol, which is usually grown at high altitudes, is the only chemotype of thyme that can be used in the treatment of children. Because one species of oil-producing plant can break down into several chemotypes, each with different medical potential, the list of useful plants is more exensive than first appearances might apply" She lists regular Thyme as being useful for many things.. but when it comes to antiviral/antibacterial uses, she does list RED thyme instead of just thyme. I am not an expert and am still learning even though I have successfully used aromatherapy for 10 years. From what I have read, (and that is limited!), it sounds like the white thyme oil is a further refinement of the red.Did that make sense? LOLCan you private email me the brand you used?
