Hi All! I found the group due to Martin's pages of fabulous links and info. I

found Martin's sites because of an old post on bodyworkonline. eh, i can't

remember how i found bodyworkonline...it's been a few months--maybe a year??

I'm Jessica. I'm a massage therapist. I've been dabbling with aromatherapy

since the early-90s. I've been plunged further into it due to my involvement

with a local moms' forum and some posts to their natural living/attachment

parenting (nl/ap) forum about 'oh, it's natural,' so i've been doing more

client/public education than i would have expected for not having yet

accomplished 'formal' training. I've been eyeballing some different programs

for a few years, and continue to collect resources and read what's available at

the public library in the meantime.

Any questions? or did i cover the basics?

Jessica,

I can't tell you how delighted I was to see your comment below:

>read what's available at the public library in the meantime.

It is so nice to come across someone who realises they cannot get all they need

to know off of the Internet. This group and others like it have been used by

many to glean snippets of information and that is fine. What is not fine is

when these people then start teaching unverified information to others as facts.

Many many aromatherapy teachers have done just that.

The net is great for some info, particularly pages such as Marcia's blog.

However, the Internet still does not contain the massive volumes of information

on essential oils that are only in books, particularly the older ones.

Just hoping what you are studying to closely the trades aromatherapy novels in

that library :)

Nothing can be fully learned from just one source. There are two statements

from my mother regarding college that I have been applying to a good portion

of my life for some 15+ years:

1) study what you love, not what you think you'll make money in--by the time

you're " marketable, " there won't be jobs available for you.

2) be wary of institutions that have alumnus staff--it tends to generate an

in-breeding of thought.

I've facilitated a couple of Aroma MNI's (MNI=Moms' Nite In) for a local

mom's forum and will be doing a couple more at the Christmas Market that

I'll have my chair set up at. Basically I encourage personal research,

including being mindful of copyright dates as there has been an increase in

research, but i EMPHASIZE safety and what to look for when purchasing

(labelling). My driving force behind these " mini's " (as we've nicknamed

them) is that just because EOs are " natural " does not mean they can be used

willy-nilly.

I look forward to picking the collective brains of the group, and HOPE I

have something worthwhile to contribute. I have a couple things on my plate

currently, but once I resolve them I hope to delve further into the archives

so I don't harrass about topics already discussed. *grin*

Sylla--i am so _STOKED_ about what you are doing with the UAE. i MUST

determine a way i can assist!! *doing a Snoopy happy dance*
