Guest guest
How could we ever forget? For me it all started here on the internet the day after that fateful morning.......our coming together to do something. Finally after many years struggle, waiting for help that did not materialize and money for the fee that finally appeared I was able to plow thru and complete figures, gather all the materials to send in our application to IRS for exemption. I can not begin to say how hard this was for me (partly due to health issues like menopause, PTSD) and I don't do forms or balance sheets!! but it hung over me many years; nevertheless IT IS IN now we wait for final approval to begin our real life as a 501(3)©. It is only because of the continued support in our community that we can continue on. We now have TWO Soldiers on the ground in Afghanistan that we can ship to, both are loved ones from the aromatherapy community. Any suggestions, comments welcome as we hop onto our new path, with the " first stop " on our afghanistan deployment. I really have joined the ARMY and am deployed to Afghanistan (in my mind). (HOOAH) ;-) Thank you for your support. love Sylla Sylla Sheppard-Hanger www.UnitedAromatherapy.org

Guest guest
Thank you Sue >Congratulations! Good for you that you never gave up. That can be the hardest part, keeping the momentum.>> I think I may have given up, unfortunately as I put in our narrative, we get renewed support when there is a disaster, and that is what has kept me going- I may have started it, but its the supporters that keep it going. And now with Jim gone it is extremely personal, we could say I am obsessed with Afghanistan and the ARMY!! I feel like I am there with him as we are very close contact (10am to 3pm my time- thank God for the internet) and I get pics of what he sees on their patrols, him meeting the Afgan Army General at the Ministry of Defense, giving out supplies to Afgan school children and journals of a descriptive nature. I feel so lucky, and now he is spreading the aromatherapy word, or will be when he gets his first box as he is our first Soldier on the Ground- Im updating the site weekly if you want to keep up with how we are moving along. We also just recieved a huge $donation from Japan which helped replace the fee for IRS!! > F.Y.I. I don't know who the soldiers you have in mind are, We are open to a few good men and women as Soldier on the Ground. they just need to be able to recieve and share their box, they can let us know their conditions (elec? bugs?), needs: inhalers, sprays, etc and we can start shipping a package, as we get in more we can send more but Jeanne Rose's son Bryan was deployed to Afghanistan earlier this summer. I've emailed Jeanne and have his address -soon as I can contact for permission and his needs we can ship to him too, we just need more supplies to start coming in, but hopefully he will be our second Soldier on the Ground in SW AFG. while im here I wanted to share that this weekend on the cable chanel GAC is an amazing show- " Ten Days " its all about Trace Atkins (whom I did not know), taking his band and equipment over to Iraq and Afghanistan for ten days and doing 10 concerts for the troops. Well, seeing that changed my feelings from crying over Jim going to lets do something proactive, change the focus of UAE, what the heck, we need to help those over there- the same feeling I had after 9/11. check it out: http://www.gactv.com/gac/shows_spl/episode/0,3038,GAC_26200_60395,00.html I saw this show the night Jim left (for preAFG @ FT.Benning), that Sunday night in August, I found it chanel surfing, a chanel I have never seen, never heard of Trace Atkins so when I found the link it says it is premiering sept 12.??? ...I felt it was a miracle jut for me.....I needed to see that then, ..... it will move anyone who sees it... check it out if you can Sylla www.UnitedAromatherapy.org

Guest guest
Dear Sylla, In February, 2010, you will have a third soldier in Afghanistan to send things to. It will be my son, Lt. Richard Emison, U.S. Marine Corps. We just found out about this recently. We will have to wait until he is deployed in February to know where to send things. I am so proud of you for doing this for our troops. Thank you very much for doing this. You are wonderful. Rhavda Cooper Emison Original Message: ----------------- Sylla S. Guest guest
OMG Rhavda this amazing, though not really. Of course we will take care of him too! keep us posted where he is going. What a personal mission this is becoming now, as I find out about more and more of our babies that have to go serve and we all can support them together, share our stories here and be together in our concerns. This has really helped to allay my fears, (I hope it lasts!) I like what my friend Yvette when someone said I was " too pacifist to join the ARMY " - she said " doesn't matter what you believe in, we need to serve them because they serve us " . Guest guest
Dear Sylla, Thank you for your reply. Over the past two years I have been sending things to a young soldier in Iraq. He is home now. He and his wife are like an adopted second family so I understand exactly what you are saying and what you are doing. I am also sending other items to my son's friends who are stationed in other places in the world. It is wonderful that I can now join in and help you. For years the US Naval Academy Parents Groups around the country have sent packages to our young people serving. The other Academies also do this. This is how I got started sending " care " packages to our guys. I was so happy to see you doing this within our community. I am in the process of redoing my web site so may I have permission to ad a link to your org.? I'm mentioning it here because I hope that others might want to do the same thing on their web sites. (I hope that I am not getting in trouble with the list moms for this but I believe that this org. transcends all other adgendas.) We are one community that needs to unite under one group in order to maximize results and minimize costs. By all joining together we will create wonderful things to bolster the morale of our troops. Take care. Have a wonderful week! Rhavda Original Message: ----------------- Sylla S. Hanger sylla Sun, 13 Sep 2009 08:18:15 -0400 ATFE Re: 8 years later OMG Rhavda this amazing, though not really. Guest guest
Hi Sylla First, post top middle or bottom on ATFE - we like them all :-) Personally just chop out bits of posts that make it hard to follow the thread, or make it too long. Idea - You could start a FB group for UAE, then we could all join and post it to our profiles to help spread the word. You can have a direct link to your main web page from there. As for blends, have you had any feedback on whats already been used? For air pollution I like Lemon, and find Eucalyptus citriodora gives the lemon zing - with added *kick*. I prefer it to Lemongrass or Citronella, which can bring on headaches for some people. Pine, rosemary & fennel seem to cut through smoke, whilst eucalyptus and peppermint are nice and *fresh/clean* smelling. Be nice to get a bit of Yarrow in there somewhere - I find it great for my asthma which only comes on these days when I burn food - lol - and the kitchen gets that horrid burnt smoke smell (!). For winter, Ginger and Orange win my vote, though I love any and all the spices when its cold. Stress is harder because most *anti-stress* oils fall in the high cost bracket, apart from the citruses, which can be a bit too sharp at times. Salvia fruticosa (Greek sage) is uplifting (for me) but not sure what the current production/cost is. Its not an oil I see a lot off. I can see your problem with this one needing to be so general because stress/reaction to stress is so very varied. The emotions over there will be fraught and there is no way of knowing whether that will spill into anxiety, anger, depression, insomnia or any combination of emotional response. Perhaps something really simple like Lavender and Lemon? Not very helpful, sorry :-) But lets hope my quick jottings help get some discussions going on this one! Come on folks lets have some ideas rolling in...... Well done Sylla ! You're great for doing this. :-) Liz x 2009/9/13 Sylla S. Guest guest
Good morning! sorry for delay, (had to get some paying work done! )Thanks for the ideas Liz, this is what I need. Since the weekend Ive thought about how to do this huge volunteer task, and I realized that its like you guys are my sounding board (and corp members) and this can be a great brainstorming session. Also need fund raising ideas, and volunteers to help; posting shortly on site a list of needs- we have $3-5K worth of stuff that needs $3K worth of stuff to make ready but mostly I want to organize the SOG program and keep shipping over what we have changing as the needs change. >Idea - You could start a FB group for UAE, then we could all join and post it to our profiles to help spread the word. You can have a direct link to your main web page from there.>> Yes, FB is an idea, but personally I dont have time to do that and the site both, and keep up with my day job!! but I will work on that- if anyone would like to do that for us.....here is a great opp! there are lots of folks that are not on FB, but I suppose we can reach them in other ways.... >As for blends, have you had any feedback on whats already been used?> waiting for Jims first package to arrive. I sent a lot of our Purification blend that was the " scent of NY " for us because we used it so much. (will give the formula if anyone wants to make more, we always need this and Im almost out now.) And it also went to Katrina, etc. I had also some inhalers: uplifting, breather, tuberose, some diffusor blends, a ultrasonic diffusor for his container home, some Bio-Freeze (looking into getting lots more of that via DougE who is here soon) and I threw in some 100 little samples of peppermint lotion (Bronners). Soon as he gets he can give me feedback on what works, what they like, etc >For air pollution I like Lemon, and find Eucalyptus citriodora gives the lemon zing - with added *kick*.
