Guest guest
Hi Martin, I think celebrating past events, victories, or achievements is not living in the past so much as an opportunity to remember where we have come from, an opportunity to refocus on what our goals were and are, and encouragement to know that since we have done something once before, we can do it again in the future if need be. Whether it is something national like Independence Day, or simply celebrating the fact that I have lived through yet another year. As far as specifically celebrating Independence Day (but it also applies to holidays remembering WWI and WWII, and even our Civil War) - having a day to reflect and remember that our forefathers stood for something they believed in even to the point of death, makes it a little easier for me to stand up for what I believe in, at far lesser cost in most cases. Just my two cents. Regards, Deanna Begin quoted passage: > The difference between most Brits and Yanks is that we do not have National days with a lot of hype celebrating historical events long past. The exception is possibly the Irish, who like Yanks, do tend to live very much in the past and it badly affects their current lives. Hmm think I should propose a National holiday celebrating Britain disposing of the Spanish armada. Get my point > > Martin
