Guest guest
Hello all, It's been a while since I posted (that's an understatement), but I'm happy to be back in the saddle, so to speak, and working on some blends. Right now I'm working on a calming blend based on Neroli and Frankincense, but it needs something to add some depth to it. I've tried a little Atlas Cedar and Vetiver, but I don't want either to overpower the blend. Does anyone have any suggestions for an accent note that might provide this? Labdanum keeps coming to mind. Thanks, Carrie
Guest guest
Hi Carrie - nice to see you back :-) It depends on the calming aspect really, and will it be an on-skin blend or vaporizer? Are you looking for physical calm, anxiety or spiritual sort of calm? I find Neroli enlivening (in a happy energetic way) so - for me - I would'nt start with that to calm. I find it more useful to ease loss of friendship grief and to help look back on happy times - or forward to new ventures. You could try a little lavender (I know - boring! but good!) or maybe just a touch of benzoin or vanilla? For spiritual blends I love juniper berry with frankincense. Guest guest
Carrie, Your feeling for Labdanum may be right. It is a fragrance that alone I detest, but a drop or two in a blend can add a bit of depth. We used to use a touch of it in the blend we made for our book F & M. Atlas cedar is mostly a reconstructed oil with synthetics added and benzoin is of course not an essential oil but always has solvents in it. I loaned out your book on Frankincense and Myrrh a few years ago and never got it back....makes me sick cause I loved it and can't find it now! I'm going for an overall " serenity " thing, and for use on the skin. I have already used a little Lavender and some Lavender absolute. The vanilla is a good idea to try. I'm so glad to be back in touch with you guys. Carrie
