Its all about genetics. Cats that react to catnip have a gene that's missing in cats that don't favor it. Estimates are that only 40% ro so of cats have the gene, so only 40% of cats enjoy catnip. Some scientists claim that its all a sexual experience because of the similarity of a sexual pheromone found in the urine of the male cat to nepetalactone. I tried Catnip EO on my two cats in Turkey and they disregarded it .. we grew some this year in the garden and my cat here disregards it. The three cats I have had are amongst the genetically inferior 60% that are undersexed. Maybe I should start selling Cat Pee oil instead of Catnip oil .. maybe the skeeters will not like it too. > Kathleen Petrides > Bead Hussy http://www.BeadHussy.com <http://www.beadhussy.com/> Y'all keep smiling. :-) Butch .. http://www.AV-AT.com
Guest guest
Big cats go catnip-wild over a relative of the kiwi fruit - Actinidia lantana leaves. Learned that years ago in economic botany. Guest guest
>Maybe I should start selling Cat Pee oil instead of Catnip oil We used to have a fox that loved my line of catmint plants so much it kept rolling on it and I think peed on it as well until all the plants died. I am sure there is some kind of hormone mimic in it because the only other place that fox marked was my rosemary bush and they were a 100 feet away from each other. My old tom cat would nibble at the leaves and then attack me if I got anywhere near him and it took a few hours to wear off. So with him it worked opposite to those cats who go all placid when they smell it. >Maybe I should start selling Cat Pee oil instead of Catnip oil There are many who will buy anything if you market it hard enough. I even had someone suggest to me today that their supplier only supplied genuine Linden blossom absolute-yeah-yeah-yeah!!!
