Guest guest
Liz, Thanks for sharing. Am I the only one going 'Yikes!' at the edible film? When I buy Spinach, I want Spinach, not something laced with various surprise chemicals, even carvacrol. Apples should be apples, not apples and various related by products. The article seems to gleam with the idea that it kills E.Coli. But how about we don't have poo (where E. Coli comes from) in our fruits and vegetables? Rather than some disinfectant so the poo doesn't get as many people sick. Plus, I doubt that it would be a steady stream of carvacrol from natural sources. Guest guest
Did you know you can get E. coli from breathing. Yep. You can. On myth busters they found that E. coli grows every where. How about not using antibiotics on everything that would go far to keeping us from getting sick from everything. If we fear everything in everything we eat, breathe, drink etc. we might as well just shut down the world because it's not " safe " If life was about being safe, there wouldn't be such thing as survival of the fittest. And there wouldn't be natural selection. There will be people on this earth after we die. I promise. We cannot continue to try and irradicate things and not create new problems. There will always be problems because we as humans are problem solvers.. Ere go if there are no problems.. there is no progress, and as humans we have " naturally selected " off spring that find problems where there might not really be one. It's just a difference of opinion. Jennifer. Stop killing microbes. We used to be microbes. (get the Idea.) We are indeed killing ourselves... > - > David Roman > 08/20/08 12:11 pm > ATFE2 > [ATFE2] Re: Conquering Our Unseen Enemies/carvacrol research > > Liz, > > Thanks for sharing. > > Am I the only one going 'Yikes!' at the edible film? Problem with most such research is when it comes to the practical applications it is highly likely they will use synthetic carvacrol and not extracted carvacrol. When I discussed this years ago with Prof. Baser - who had done tons of research on carvacrol. He admitted that not all the observed activity may be due to that single chemical. When the carvacrol is synthetically reproduced it is rarely identical to the real thing. Yes you can get highly purified synthetic versions, but that is rarely used due to its expense. Interesting research but with a tad of reinventing the wheel and a lot of doubts over its applications being as natural as people may believe. Guest guest
Hi Martin & David I agree, I'd much rather get my carvacrol from its natural source - as and when needed - than have a synthetic version covering my food and drip feeding me minute amounts whether I needed it or not. As Martin said << Interesting research but with a tad of reinventing the wheel and a lot of doubts over its applications being as natural as people may believe.>> If I'm ill - I'll get my carvacrol from oregano! From an aromatherapy view point I found this bit interesting as well: " Some of the other top performers, in order of their effectiveness, came from thyme, cinnamon, palmarosa, bay leaf, clove bud, lemongrass, and that keystone of the all-American apple pie, allspice. " Palmarosa...... now what other big bad bug does that see off? Hum... LLx (Who is back at Wythenshawe hospital soon for yet another trigger finger operation - and hoping they still have those machines pumping out EO's to kill MRSA....)
