I came across a GREAT book on alternative treatments for dealing with migraine disease... wrote about it in my blog and added it to our amazon page.. http://www.naturesgift.com/booklist.htm#migraine (if this is blatant commercialization, I apologize to the mods in advance... but the book is filled with techniques, experience, knowledge.... I was impressed!) Guest guest
Thanks Marge, I have the oils to make them go away, but let me explain the problem about clusters. Clusters are 10x worse than a migraine. They are most frequently in men and they are called " suicide " headaches because many people end up committing suicide just to rid themselves of the pain. I have had a continuous headache since April. It started out as a dull headache on one side of my head that came on suddenly at different times of the day. I thought it was because I was coming off Effexor, which happened the last time I came off. But this was worse. The pain then began radiating from my neck to behind my eye to the top of my head, to the other side of my head to my jaw at times. I could take Ibuprofin and it will go away. By the middle of May they were down right excruciating and continuous. Right now the pain is dulled and in the my upper back and neck and on the right side of my head. At certain times like a earthquake the pain will turn into a sharp, excruciating pain which lasts about 20-30 minutes then go back to the dull pain. Sometimes it will be in my jaw. I've been tested for meningitis and brain tumors. I have had energy healings from people, drugs, essential oils and even putting ice on my head will make the pain go away for a bit, but then it comes back. There's nothing really that can be done for clusters. They put me on Topomax which worked for a day or so, which the doctor will probably up the dossage. I can't walk around with an icepack on my head all day. I've learned to deal with the pain for the most part. They say it can last a few months to ??? We'll see. Guest guest
Hey Michele, I have the cluster headaches. Have had them for 5 years 24/7/365!! I know what you are going through and nothing helped. I am on Topomax as well at 200mg. It seems to help more so than everything else did. I still get some headaches, but they are far and few between. I know certain things trigger them and have learned what do and not do as the Topomax will negate it. If you ever want to email privately, let me know. I've been on Topomax for three years now. I've tried going on off of it as I really don't want to be on it forever, but the headaches are still there. I can't use Feverfew as it is a blood thinner and I have platelete problems. I've tried Vitex and for some reason that gives me headaches as well as Lavender! Go figure. Anyway, I'm here if you need me. Guest guest
Speaking as a RMT with trigger point training, I can say with relative certainty that, while beneficial for removing the TrP's in the scalenes, the SCM and the suboccipitals that can contribute to other types of headaches, Cluster Headaches are a different breed. At best, TrP therapy will do very little to help and at worst, it could make matters worse by contributing to the cluster pain. What I do know about them is that around 70% of cluster suferrers respond very well to Oxygen therapy and, with known irritants including tobacco smoke, alcohol (a vasodilator) and high altitudes (+5000ft), there definitely seems to be an issue with proper breathing and O2 metabolism. -- _________________ Slán Medb --------O ~ Go dtugtar breith orainn dá réir ár ngníomhartha. ~
