I just uploaded a few image files from my book by Septimus Piesse on

perfumery (1879 edition). These first few are relevant to recent group

posts. As I get time to process more of the scanned images I will add

a few more. The whole book is around 500 pages so I will have to be

selective in what I upload. Some will find these of great interest.

Thanks for loading those, Martin. I appreciate it. Please do upload

the pages that you feel are relevant when you have the time.

Ta,

Stacey

Note to all: I spent 2 weeks last summer with Martin and his many

reference materials dating from way back when... just wish I could

have soaked more of them in while I was there. (Note: yes, he is a

bear, but also a formidable debater and an even more gracious host.)

The entire book is free to download in various formats. I love the PDF

version since it's searchable. This site has the most formats, including

Rocketbook, Ipod, etc. I have links to many free books of antiquity that

have to do with perfumery and toiletries if anyone is interested - just

let me know. In the meantime, here's the Piesse book:

My students adore the Piesse book and many have written essays based on

it - and I know a famed natural perfumer who recently re-read the entire

book for an interview based on Piesse.

What I think I should do is upload them to a webpage in a few days when

I have some time. Currently they're just available on my class website

for my students. Remind me, Sherri, if I forget.

Great, I did not know that book was on-line. That will save me a heap

of work processing the book scans. Just a word of caution, there are

an enormous number of formulas that would not be used nowadays for a

variety of reasons. So, take it as a great historical work and be

careful. By the way,I have the first and fourth and they are very

different.

I must apologize. My workload is brutal. I just tried to create a

webpage but it will take me hours to do all the transferring of links,

etc. Perhaps Martin can research them - they're all out there on the

web. Sorry for jumping ship on this project, I am just working 18 hour

days at this point. Enjoy the Piesse, though, and there are many various

editions on the web, I just posted one.
