Guest guest
Hi I just rejoined the list after being off most lists for a couple of years. I've retired from corporate training and organizational design work (finally), am in my residency as a midwife (I'm in El Paso right now at a clinic), and am working just about full-time for a non-profit that teaches women how to be midwives. We have two programs - one, a distance program for the academic parts targeting women who can't get to an onsite program for this; two, we take small groups of volunteers to the booniest boondocks in Sierra Leone and teach a simplified version of the program to local traditional birth attendants. This keeps me pretty dang busy. Home is San Francisco with the beloved partner and four dogs. We have five kids and eight grandkids between us, which is cool. I'm working with the local healers in Sierra Leone, trying to learn more about their plant medicine. I've shared with them some essential oils, which they regard with some awe. They see how the catnip helps protect me from the mosquitos while it gives me a headache. I blend it with other stuff, which helps a lot, and the healers are very impressed. They're also impressed with lavender and fennel. Apparently nothing around there smells like that. They nod and murmur over pennyroyal, geranium and some others. If I understood the language (Mende), it would help. I have to speak Spanish when I am here at this clinic, and Mende and Krio when I am in Sierra Leone. Which means, I can't speak any language, including English - the German and Korean get in the way. I'm rambling - I'm tired. Two babies today, with long labors. To Life!
