I want to > know the truth about the essential oils and what they can and can not do. The question is too broad .. narrow it down a bit and it will be easier to answer. Not a week passes that I don't get an inquiry from a customer on a particular oil that they wish to use for this or that and in roughly half the cases I tell them it will NOT work for that purpose. If they are new customers they often never order from me again because I have rained on their parade .. they probably start to order from those who told them what they wanted to hear. > For the development of this field to be a legitimate offshoot of the Herbal > industry the aromatherapies needs to be clear and accurate on what the oils > can and cannot do. First .. though I'll not argue the point with anyone .. I'll never accept that AT is an offshoot of the herbal industry. Secondly .. odds are great that 99% of those selling oils can't be clear and accurate due to their ignorance and their dependence of the garbage material that is common in AT .. and odds are not a lot better that many of the so-called " certified " AT practitioners can do much better due to the ignorance of too many AT teachers. Thirdly .. don't hold your breath waiting for AT to become a science. We can't even get folks to agree what it is! The problem with AT is that we have bastardized it .. we have corrupted it .. we have turned it into a dog and pony show and a snake oil carnival. BigPharma has done the same thing for medicine but they have the big bucks to do research and to advertise and to buy scientists and governments. > Scientific research will be almost impossible because each and > every batch is different just because of the nature of the growing > seasons and weather and all of that but the chemical substances and > their modes of action should be the same is this correct?? The minor variance in chemical profiles from year to year or batch to batch is not significant .. keep in mind that EA are highly concentrated so a little bit goes a long way. I'd not offer an Oregano with a Carvacrol content below 60% but I would use it and expect good results if I had none with a higher percentage. As for scientific research .. there is TONS and TONS or it out and about .. but most of is not in English. Reason for this is because it is the Western World that is most influenced by the Pill Pushers and it is the Western academics that BigPharm strives to keep from doing such research. The Pill Pushers are great industrial spies .. if some university is working on a project that might cost them $$$ they will try to distract them and even in some cases try to recruit them into a conspiracy to work on something else. Matters not if the professor is honest of not .. his university is not going to allow him to turn down a few million for different research projects. The majority of the academic institutions in the Third World have not yet become so corrupt .. reason is they don't produce that much data in English. But it is those institutions that do the real good work! There are many scientific conferences each year .. all over the world. Most of the attendees are not American. One of the MANY foreign credible research centers is the Medicinal and Aromatic Plant and Drug Research Center at Anadolu University in Eskisehir, Turkey. In September 1999, I presented one of their many studies at an AT conference in Toronto. I presented research conducted by five prominent professors who used using Origanum onites in a project involving lung tumors in rats, using three different groups and three treatments, one of them being a normal cancer treatment. I presented the study and showed the audience colored micro slides of the lung tissues. The Origanum onites not only stopped the growth but also caused recession of the growths! The lung tissue was reverting to its previously normal pink and clear state!! I made it clear that this is not an indication that it will cure cancer in humans but it shows a great need for further research. When I left Turkey in 2007 that test had been repeated with the same results .. but as far as I know it is in limbo right now. There are many, many more such studies .. Martin has tons of them and has shared many of them with me over the years. But finding them is not something we do easily on the I-Net .. many of those studies cost big bucks .. unless .. one is willing to pay to go to the scientific conferences .. and by scientific I DO NOT mean AT Conferences. I have conference notes from a number of conferences I paid to attend. And I have not used an over the counter medication (except aspirin and an antacid) or a prescription drug .. except one time .. since 1995. I am one healthy old fart .. those who know me accept that. > Oh I am a newbie to all of this but hopefully learning. If you stick with it you will learn. If you take the path of least resistence .. that is reading and listening to a lot of the garbage common in the AT industry .. you will become even more confused. A good place to start learning the correct information is Martin's Course .. I have said that before and will continue to say it because it is the finest source of correct information on AT around! Ask questions on this list .. you will receive answers. Some of those answers will be accurate .. most will NOT be accurate and when that happens you can count on someone challenging the one who put out the bad info. It might piss some folks off when they are challenged but some of us have not made a habit of telling folks what they want to hear or keeping quiet when dangerous information is put out .. or even misinformation that is not dangerous but might be costly from a point of your budget. Keep in mind what I have written before .. we can't challenge the spirtual hocus pocus .. talking to plants is fine but when they talk back the listener might be suffering from some form of psychosis .. and they are not likely to accept being challenged .. nor is there a lot of reason to challenge them. There are many ways to skin the cat in AT and though some of those ways are not scientific .. they are also not harmful .. AT unto itself is a very subjective field. When one is discussing the therapeutic properties of an EO that is a whole different ball game .. there is absolutely no room for opinion in that case .. they can either back up their claims with solid info or their claims should be disregarded! If my comments kick off another thread and folks get too far out in left field .. I will do my best to remain civil .. though it is not always easy. ;-) > Sherri Rohm Y'all keep smiling. :-) Butch .. http://www.AV-AT.com

I talk to plants and flowers all the TIME and I absolutely know that I have seen them nod in agreement with me! ROFLMAO Always a smart ass and a dumb ass simultaneously! Guest guest
Butch, Thanks for your answer. I guess I should tell alittle bit about my background. I became interested in Herbs in 1984. I am an LPN and I had married my husband who is a Vietnam Veteran. He was having alot of symptoms and strange disorders. The VA was no help at this time because they were in denial of everything. My husband and I both went to Penn State Unv. and through the interlibrary loans we were able to get alot of research on Agent Orange. Mostly from overseas sources. Alot of time has passed and three kids about all grown and I want to get back into Herbs and the Oils. I don't have the time nor the money for BS and fluff. Do you and Martin have the research translated into English or do I need to start studying other languages?? I do remember seeing some research about Origanum just about a month ago. I remember thinking oh my god what this could mean to help people with cancer and hoping that further research would be carried out. I guess I better not hold my breath. Any good reference books that I should look into buying? Sherri Rohm
