Glad I am to see a bit of logic and reality in this chaotic discussion. The term " Aromachology " was coined in 1989 .. just 19 years ago .. by the Sense of Smell Institute, a division of The Fragrance Foundation .. the reasons for this were (in my opinion) two: (1) To further their own research in a manner that would be considered as being credible .. and (2) To tack a handle on the influence of Odors on Behavior .. areas that they could not leave in the realm of Aromatherapy .. which is what some folks have been trying to do here. A quote from them is .. " Aromachology is much like psycho-aromatherapy as this concerns itself with the effects of aroma on both ones mood and emotion state. " So Sweet Peas and Horse Dung and Bourbon and Perfume and to some folks .. under arm odor .. can fit into the realm of this new creation .. at least for now. As we learn more about the effects of odors odds are that they will need to refine their definition .. and maybe even their dogma. > Aromatherapy - emphasis on *therapy *- to me is *essential oils* used to > either kill germs, help heal skin problems, be inhaled for respiratory > issues, etc., etc. If it is NOT .. then we are in deep doo doo and there is absolutely no need to be concerned with acquiring PURE, QUALITY Essential Oils because there are synthetic adulterants out and about that will make an oil smell EVEN BETTER .. and then if one holds to the Sweet Pea theory the therapeutic value should be greater. Con Artists do not always add synthetic ingredients to increase profit .. when they do it is called stretching .. they often add them to make the product smell nicer .. make it more marketable .. which also improves their profit because they sell more. Many novices do not understand that ALL Essential Oils will not smell nice .. they can be made to smell nice if one doctors them a bit. > > Lots of etc's today - so y'all can fill in the blanks.;-) I reckon I have done my best to do this. And I will repeat that I am still considering what I could offer to a group of people who are not speaking my language .. the language of this route step industry that is likely to remain a cottage industry because of a lack of standardization and discipline! I never cared for Ad Hoc committees in the first place and refused to allow them when I was in the driver's seat. ;-) > -- > - perfumes, aromatics, classes, consultation > > Y'all keep smiling. :-) Butch .. http://www.AV-AT.COM
